このクラスで学べること
One thing I hear repeatedly from my students is how anxious they are about their own Adulting journey. So, this class is for young people that are incredibly excited but also terrified with the idea that soon they will be making their own path. Mixing independence and personal freedom with an incredible amount of stress and personal responsibility, Adulting is hard and confusing for the best of us! If your goal is to gain a better understanding of the real world, feel more confident in it, and become a more professional person, it all starts here with coping skills. That’s right, coping skills. To become a professional faster, communicate with professionals faster, make them listen to you faster, and therefore, help you be successful faster, you have to learn how to best manage yourself. That takes good coping skills and emotional maturity. You can be smart, talented and motivated, but still not thrive if you are unable to keep your emotions in check and present yourself well. This one-time class will cover what coping skills are, positive vs. negative coping skills, consequences of not using positive coping strategies, emotional maturity, what to do when your emotions run away with you, taking personal responsibility for yourself, and communicating and acting like a professional- learn what will be expected of you. We will identify positive coping skills that you may already use and give examples of new ones for you to try. Some tactics we will discuss are knowing your strengths and playing to them, using creative expression techniques, being introspective, avoiding escapism, controlling your environment, building confidence, taking responsibility for what we can and cannot control, and finding what works best for you. This class will be instructor-led, but students are encouraged to participate and share their ideas to teach others, develop relationships, and build confidence. All learners bring a unique perspective to the table, and we want to hear them all! Plus, we are here to learn new skills together, so this is a safe place to share thoughts and ideas in a way that is respectful and empowering. As the teacher, I will share information on topics, ask critical thinking questions to help students relate the topic to the real world, give real-world examples, moderate the direction of class communication, and make it fun and engaging. I also love to hear new ideas, so if you have input on this class or others you would like to see offered, I am excited to hear what you have to say!

教師の専門知識と資格
I have taught healthy coping skills and emotional maturity in a class setting with Juniors and Seniors for the past three years. I have observed the students in a variety of activities and interactive discussions on this topic. I also taught coping skills as part of an Activities of Daily Living Skills series in a mental health setting, however, this course is not intended as any type of counseling. Rather, it is intended to help learners identify healthy coping mechanisms, the reasons to avoid using negatively impactful ones, taking personal responsibility, and learning what can and cannot be controlled.
