Welcome to our 6th grade math class! This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts, problem-solving skills, and real-world applications. This course covers a wide range of topics, including number systems, algebra, geometry, probability, and data analysis. Engagement and relationship-building are an intrigue part of our teaching philosophy. Because of this, the environment is focused on student intrapersonal relationships and lessons are interactive and highly individualized. Your student will build a connection with the instructor and fellow classmates as they grow in their mathematical understanding. In addition to the lessons, the course includes regular assessments and homework through IXL to help students track their progress and identify areas where they may need additional support. Our course also provides students with plenty of opportunities to practice what they have learned through interactive activities, games, and real-world scenarios. Each week there are two live lessons for 50 minutes each. Students are encouraged to take notes of the mathematical concepts in a designated math notebook (notes can be provided as an accommodation). Students will then practice their learned skills in a variety of ways. The most common way students practice their new skills is through IXL, a learning platform that allows the instructor to monitor students' understanding in real-time. Beyond the two live lessons, students may have access to additional videos and documents when needed. ***Because this class only meets twice a week, it's important that students complete assignments outside of class*** The weekly model will look like the following: All lessons can be taken individually. Students should have a background of 5th grade math and should be comfortable with the multiplication and division facts. Quarter 1: August to Early October Lesson 1: Defining ratios, Visualize ratios, Equivalent ratios Lesson 2: Ratio Word Problems and ratio application Lesson 3: Intro to rates and percents Lesson 4: Percent, decimal, fraction conversions Lesson 5. Adding and subtracting decimals, multiplying and dividing decimals Lesson 6: Dividing 2 and 3 digit divisors Lesson 7: Dividing fractions by fractions Lesson 8: Exponents defined, order of operations Quarter 2: Mid October to Early January Lesson 9: Negative numbers, decimals, and fractions on the number line Lesson 10: Negative numbers as opposites, comparing negative numbers Lesson 11: Absolute value Lesson 12: Coordinate planes Lesson 13: Whole numbers & integers defined, Least common multiple and greatest common factor Lesson 14: Algebraic expressions Lesson 15: Algebraic expressions and the distributive property Lesson 16: Equivalent expressions, combining like terms in algebraic equations Lesson 17: One-step equations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division Lesson 18: Dependent and independent variables in equations Quarter 3: Mid January to Early March Lesson 19: Area of parallelograms, triangles, composite figures Lesson 20: Volume with fractions Lesson 21: Surface area of geometric solids Lesson 22: Polygons on the coordinate plane Quarter 4: Mid March to Early May Lesson 23: Define and use dot plots, frequency tables, histograms, box plots Lesson 24: Use and compare dot plots, frequency tables, histograms, box plots Lesson 25: Identify the shape of dot plots, frequency tables, histograms, box plots Lesson 26: Statistical questions, defined Lesson 27: Mean Lesson 28: Median

TEACHERS:
Kristina Rinard (Owner)
I was an elementary school teacher for 8 years and a vice principal for 5 (I promise I won't give you my principal look). Since then, I get to share my love for education with preservice teachers as an adjunct professor at the university level. Teaching Certificates include Elementary Education, Cross-Categorical Special Education, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Google Certified Level 1. My degrees include a Bachelors in Elementary Education/Special Education from Northwest Missouri State, a Masters in Teaching from Webster University, and a Specialist Degree in School Administration from Northwest Missouri State.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
We believe that students learn through personal action. Though we frequently use standards to guide instruction, we work to make our classrooms student-centered. Our classes often feature games and investigative activities.
Students of all backgrounds and learning abilities are welcome in our classrooms. If there is an accommodation you'd like us to make for your child, please reach out. Our classrooms are safe spaces.
INFORMATION:
We'd be happy to set up a private section for homeschool pods or groups of students wanting to create a consistent experience together. Just shoot us a message and we will work something out!
