Reading Code classes are based on current research on how children learn to read. This tutoring program is appropriate for children learning to read as well as struggling readers of all ages. Classes are scheduled by request and flexible to meet the needs of each family. This program will teach learners to apply their knowledge of letters and sounds to crack the reading code. Lessons build upon each other and increase in difficulty as phonics skills and patterns are mastered. Each session is individualized to meet the specific needs of the child in their reading journey. Assessments are used to inform instructional next steps as learners build the foundational skills required to be a proficient reader. Sessions will include opportunities to play with words, develop oral language skills, and connect their new knowledge to reading decodable texts.  The session breakdown is listed below. Our classes are packed with activities that keep learners engaged in reading and writing while having fun!

The following is a breakdown of each session:
Oral Language Skill Building 
Letter Sound Fluency - most common phoneme sound 
Phonics Focus - blending sounds to read focus words
Phonics Focus - applying letter/sound knowledge to write/encode focus words 
Rule Breaker Words - words that break the phoneme rules (e.g. the/was)
Read - decode a short text

This ongoing class is designed to build reading skills. Classes are taught by a trained literacy interventionalist with special education qualifications and certified in teaching reading online with fidelity.
