Homework
4+ hours per week. Students will be provided with skill packet practice exercises at the end of each session. These activities are designed to be completed independently, and will include answer keys as appropriate. Students may always ask the instructor questions in the Classroom or via message to receive support with these activities.
Assessment
Students may write a sample five paragraph essay which the instructor will review and provide some feedback on for improvement. Review turn around time 3-5 days.

In this five day camp, your high schooler will master the key skills for writing strong essays! ✍️ Through fun examples, hands-on practice, and collaborating with peers, they’ll discover the art of writing and crafting persuasive arguments. 📚 Each day focuses on a crucial part of essay writing, ensuring a solid understanding and practical application. 💡

Topics covered include creating a thesis, organization, persuasive writing techniques, and proofreading ideas. Details included in the syllabus. 


💬Teaching Style

Classes will be taught as a combination of lecture, discussion, and collaborative review. The goal is to get students "doing". 

No formal academic writing experience is required. 📃

Other Details

Parental Guidance
In writing persuasive essays, topics will involve perspectives and opinions. Topics will be related to student interests and activities. In the event that current events becomes the topic of discussion (which can involve political perspectives), the instructors goal is to support argumentation and writing technique to help that student (and others) refine their skills.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Mr. Scott is the owner of RPGC, and has taught professionally for 20+ years. He was a traditional classroom teacher for 15 years, and is licensed in Social Studies and Language Arts grades 7-12.
