Tarea
2-4 horas por semana. After each session, the student will have a 3 paragraph paper to write. Participation in-class activities, challenges, and peer reviews will make this a rich experience for students. I desire that each of my students utilize the resources provide for them.
Evaluación
Students are welcome and encouraged to post their papers in the classroom for positive peer feedback. The IEW utilized a checklist method for clearly communicating what is expected for each paper. Students will be encouraged to follow the checklist. Each week I will post a sample paper for students to assess their own paper against. Students may turn in their papers for Teacher review and feedback. Grammar and spelling corrections are not addressed are sometimes address but basic editing should be done by the student and/or parent.

Via a video lesson, (Please note there are no live classes) I will introduce the new concepts present in each lesson. I will go through the source text provided in the workbook. I will demonstrate new concepts by completing a sample for the class. I will demonstrate the Key Word Outlining process, brainstorming process, and writing process. The student will then receive an assignment to complete.

During the student's writing process, teacher-student interaction will ensure that the student is on track and feeling confident in their writing. Students will actively read the source text, complete a keyword outline, brainstorm, write, and revise a paper each week. Students will submit assignments for review and feedback from the teacher.

As we work on assignments students will be presented with activities and discussions that encourage them to interact with each other.
Sharing and discussing favorite books, book series, and books to movie stories. Fun Vocab quizzes via Kahoot will be given to further develop the learner's vocabulary and encourage friendly competition among the students.
Once we have begun writing papers, students will have an opportunity for work-sharing with their peers and the option to provide positive peer feedback. Many students enjoy sharing Unit 3 short stories.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Students must be familiar with the IEW Keyword Outlining Method. Unit 1&2 experience is required.

Session 1: Students will be introduced to the Key Word Outlining Method using a Story Sequence Chart to organize the retelling of a short story. We will discuss the foundational elements of every story, Characters/Setting, Plot/Conflict, Climax/Resolution. Students will retell in their own words a short story assigned by the teacher.

Session 2: Once again we will use the Story Sequence Chart to organize the retelling of a short story. We will focus on creating fun, catchy titles, and adding elements of style to stories.

Session 3: In this session, the class will focus on Themes within a story. We will discuss a short story and then brainstorm how to change the characters and settings to develop a unique story of our own but keep the Theme the same. We will discover how to improve our writing style by imitating favorite authors.

Session 4: Finally putting together all they have learned they compose their own 3 paragraph short story using the Story Sequence Chart!
Metas de aprendizaje
By the end of this 4-session class, students will have written 4 short stories. For simplicity's sake, It is my goal to keep as much interaction in the Oustschool classroom as possible! However, I will provide links to Kahoot challenges which are optional but encouraged. Submission of papers via google docs is STRONGLY encouraged as it allows me to give the most concise feedback.

I love what IEW does for student's writing. It gives them a clear rubric for what is expected. I am a certified IEW instructor and have been teaching this program for over 7 years. It is my mission to make writing interactive and fun for my students. In addition, I have walked all 3 of my own kids through this program.
