Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
In this writing course, students will be required to distinguish between factual and opinionated information. A lesson will be presented with examples pertaining to facts and what consists of an opinion. An interactive discussion will be encouraged for students to share their opinions on topics that I will present to them.

In addition, a lesson on point of view will teach students about the 1st, 2nd and 3rd POV perspectives.

The class is structured where students will interact with one another and share examples with the rest of us. Each student will get an opportunity to explain how their example is a fact and what makes their example an opinion. Students will be encouraged to make connections to self/text/world and technology so that they can generate applicable examples.

I will teach the class by leading learners and setting them on the right path. I will present a lesson where a thorough explanation will be provided pertaining to the lesson. There will be two lessons taught throughout these eight classes.

My teaching style is simplistic where I allow students to engage in discussions and ask questions. I do not put students in an uncomfortable scenario and force an answer from them, instead, I provide guidance and encourage other class mates to help. I believe that the amount of examples and explanations that will be provided in class will allow students to structure their own responses and make connections to the lessons.

Throughout my career as an English tutor, I have helped students with their English courses. I am fluent in the English language and I am very familiar with the requirements that students must achieve in order to be successful in their English courses. For example, I have helped students structure essays from beginning to end and taught how to properly structure sentences, how to integrate valuable supporting details, how to properly source, include in-text citations, analyze academic journals, and how to paraphrase information that is relevant to the topic at hand.

Writing is a skill that requires attention to detail and it requires students to pay close attention to their topic so that they do not present irrelevant information in their piece. As an English tutor, I teach students how to stay on topic, formulate a topic sentence, use strong adjectives and adverbs to provide great description to their writing, how to target different audiences, how to appropriately and professionally write a persuasive piece, and how to organize ideas so that writing is presented in a cohesive and clear manner.

I have over fourteen years of experience teaching Language to students of all ages. I have graduated with a 4.0 and hold a Master of Education degree, HBASc (Criminology) degree, Social Service Worker diploma, and Law Clerk diploma.
