"I'm going to flip through the pages of the writing prompt book! You tell me when to stop!" Students get three chances to find the perfect prompt for a class time of happy writing:

"A wild animal is loose in the house!" Use the words orange and ankle.....

"Time Travel" Use the words garlic and hurricane...

"A Summer Job" Use the words spiral and amusement park

Students will receive a prompt such as the examples above and be given time to write. If the class is reluctant or unsure, we will write a story together taking turns building the story one sentence at a time using the chat feature. At the end of class, if students choose to, they can read their creations aloud so we can congratulate them. I write and share, too, so students learn from modeling.

I have been teaching for 24 years, have English Education certification, and have published a book--but my main strength is helping students feel confident and safe enough to create with their own words. This will be a warm, welcoming and non-intimidating place to practice writing.
