The focus on this class is to help with trouble areas, not introduce grammar newly. A basic understanding of grammar is expected for learners of this class as we are going to be looking for any specific confusions on what they have learned previously. Getting tired of going over grammar again and again when all you want to do is write? While those grammar things are important, let's talk about them from a different angle; maybe a new perspective will help you out. Some of the things we are going to talk about: 1) English has words from over 350 languages in it 2) what writing looked like before punctuation (no spaces between words at all!) 3) how punctuation changes a sentence (do you mean "Let's eat Grandma" or "Let's eat, Grandma"?). 4) sentences that go on too long (however, there is a novel with a sentence of 1,288 words, how?). This is primarily a discussion-based class; with slides which will be used to demonstrate the changes of things over history. Overall, classes will generally break down as follows: Week 1: Introduction to the purpose for grammar, why we should care. We will go over the history of grammar, how the English language is a hodge-podge of languages from around the world. Learners will have a chance to talk about any specific areas that they have trouble with, are slightly anxious about or just completely stresses them out. Week 2: Focus will be on issues of punctuation. History of punctuation (what it was like before and why we got them). We will also discuss why we care about these rules and how you can break rules but you have to understand their purpose to successfully break them. Will address any issues discussed in the first week if needed here. Week 3: Focus on vocabulary and structure of writing formal and informal. Will discuss either fiction or non-fiction writing depending on the areas the learners are trying to handle.
Metas de aprendizaje
The idea is to get a new perspective on grammar and writing and clarify an area that the learner has not been able to grasp.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
I have worked in the area of reading comprehension since 2011, my favorite part being able to see others read and enjoy books.
I am an avid reader and have read most of the Classics (in English), as well as enjoying historical fiction, biographies, mystery, fantasy and science fiction. My love of reading includes government documents (this is unusual, I know).
While being a homeschooling mom of three, I also hold certificates in the area of human rights education for all ages and training others to teach about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I have extensive lecturing history in the areas of writing, reading, government and human rights.
In 2018 I was awarded the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in Washington D.C. for my work in spreading awareness on human rights both at a grassroots level, as well as in the halls of government. I have volunteered and organized non-profit events across the country for 20+ years.
Fun note: I have been homeschooling my three kids since 2017. We have two cats, but the kids each have a pet that they want which would result in two cats, a frog, a bunny and a snake (not sure about this combination).
