In this ongoing course we will meet through the holiday season and read a new daily writing prompt together. Topics will range from story telling, letter writing, descriptive writing, and relaying our own experiences. Prompts each day will include topics from the winter season, Christmas holiday, and the New Year arriving. Anyone is welcome to join and leave at anytime. The second class in this December session will include a letter to Santa Claus. It is optional to address and mail it at home with parent/guardian help. Students will have roughly 25-30 minutes to think about and finish their own writing. During this time I will bounce around and check-in one-on-one with every student to discuss their ideas and provide any help they may need until time has elapsed. The last 10-15 minutes will be spent reading and sharing our writing with the rest of our peers and listening to feedback to improve our writing skills.
(Friday December 2) 1: Everyone celebrates the holidays differently. Describe and detail how your family spends yours. Spotlight in your writing, your favorite parts.
(Tuesday December 6) 2: Christmas Eve will be here soon, time to make our wish list and send it to Santa Claus. Please write a letter to Santa checking in on him and updating him on your life. Then explain to him your holiday wishes! Don't forget to thank him!
(Thursday December 8) 3: Signed, sealed, and delivered! Our letters are on their way to Santa, what do you think happens to the mail at the North Pole? How many letters do you think Santa gets every year?
(Friday December 9) 4: It is winter time, that typically means it is cold and snow may occasionally fall! What is your favorite outdoor winter activity? Write about one of the best winter days you've had.
(Tuesday December 13) 5: Many participate in building ginger bread houses during the holiday season. Describing in detail, build a ginger bread house with your writing.
(Thursday December 15) 6: "It t'was the night before Christmas..." You finish the rest! Write a bedtime story taking place on Christmas Eve night!
(Friday December 16) 7: Santa flies all around the World on Christmas Eve night in his sleigh, seeing sites near and far. Santa asked you to join him on his stops this year, where are you most excited to go? What are you most excited to see? What do you think you and Santa will chat about on the ride?
(Tuesday December 20) 8: You know Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and Vixon, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen, even Rudolph! But Santa is hitching up a new reindeer to the sleigh this year! Give him a name, describe his personality and what he looks like.
(Thursday December 22) 9: Christmas Eve will be here soon, it is time to make cookies for Santa's big arrival! List out the ingredients needed to make your special cookies for Santa. Explain and detail in order how to make your cookies for Christmas Eve!
(Tuesday December 27) 10: Santa didn't just take your milk and cookies on Christmas Eve, he decided to borrow your Dad's favorite tv. He said he would bring it back soon, but what are you going to tell your father about this? Write Santa a thank you letter for your gifts, and kindly ask him to return your family tv.
(Thursday December 29) 11: The holidays are nearly over... What was your favorite part of celebrating with your family this month?
(Friday December 30) 12: Tomorrow is New Years Eve. It is common for people to make a new personal goal as a tradition! What do you think would be a good goal to reach in 2023? Have any changes you would like to see in your life?
