Experiencia de clase

This is a follow on course. Learners will usually be ready for this course when they have completed at least one course of my "Second Steps in Suzuki Recorder" class. Alternatively, if learners have been learning Suzuki Recorder with another teacher and can confidently play A, G, F#, E and D, they are welcome to join.

If your learner has been learning using a different recorder method please contact me so that I can advise you on the most appropriate course.

In this online 6-week course students will learn seven more beginner recorder pieces from Suzuki Recorder Volume 1.

These pieces are:
The Finch
Mary Had a Little Lamb (G Major)
Clair de Lune
The Honeybee
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star: Theme
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star: Variation
Go Tell Aunt Rhody (Folk Song)
One Bird, Variation D

We will be reviewing pieces learned in "Let's Start Suzuki Recorder" and "Second Steps in Suzuki Recorder" and progress through the Suzuki recorder repertoire at a comfortable pace for each student.

Week of July 25th: The Finch and staccato review pieces
Week of August 1st: Mary Had a Little Lamb (G Major) and legato review pieces
Week of August 8th: Clair de Lune and left hand review pieces
Week of August 15th: The Honeybee and staccato review pieces

Week of August 29th: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Theme and staccato review pieces
Week of September 5th: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Variation and staccato review pieces
Week of September 12th: Go Tell Aunt Rhody and legato review pieces
Week of September 19th: One Bird, Variation D (Four Birds) and Early Book One review pieces

Each class will include a short section of personalised individual tuition. Students are encouraged to proceed at their own pace throughout the course. Students may be at slightly differing levels but the weekly sessions do not build on each other. We cover review pieces that all students will be able to play, to reinforce technique. There will be plenty of opportunity for participation in the lesson for all students.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will be encouraged to stand in an appropriate stance for recorder playing, use correct hand positioning, and breath control. Students will develop their skills in staccato and legato articulation. They can learn eight Suzuki volume 1 pieces on the recorder. All pieces will have sung lyrics to assist with learning.

Students are encouraged to play with beautiful intonation and articulation and to listen to the sound they are making.

There will be an opportunity for each student to perform to the rest of the class at the end of each weekly session.
As this is a Suzuki class, students will be learning to play by ear and they will not be reading written notation at this stage.

You will need:

Essential:

Recorder
Please ensure you have a good quality plastic or wooden soprano recorder and not a toy recorder. It is important to have a good quality instrument so that you are able to make a beautiful sound. I recommend the Yamaha YRS 312Biii or Yamaha 402B ("Ecodear") but many other good quality recorders of approximately £20-£35 ($20-$45) are available. Please contact me if you have questions about a specific model.
You will need to tape over the holes of your recorder with electrical insulation tape. You will be able to access instructions for this upon enrollment.

Repertoire Playlist
Suzuki Recorder Book 1 & 2 (Soprano) CD or digital playlist.
Ideally the playlist, at least the first half of the book, should be listened to daily.

Optional:

Suzuki Book 1 Recorder (Soprano) book

Thumb rest
I strongly recommend using a thumb rest. It assists hand positioning and is essential for students who continue into Suzuki Recorder Volume 2.

Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Fuentes
Students who listen to the repertoire daily will make faster progress and will feel most confident when learning the new material. Suzuki Recorder Volume 1 & 2 (Soprano) recorded by Marion Verbruggen can be purchased as a CD or is available digitally on iTunes.
