Did you know that the leprechaun has featured in Irish Folklore for over 1,000 years? In this one time class students will learn about this Leprechauns. We will learn what a leprechaun looks like, where they live, what they like to do, and how tricky a leprechaun can be. When we have become leprechaun experts, we will use this information to think of ways they could design a leprechaun trap that could catch a leprechaun. Students will explore a simple design process that will encourage them to use the ideas they have learned to design a trap to catch a leprechaun. Finally students will use their new leprechaun facts to help them solve a Leprechaun themed puzzle.

Hello! My name is Roisin. Welcome to my classroom!
I have a both a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Education. For more than 20 years I have been a teacher and an educator. I have been a classroom teacher, a curriculum designer, a teacher trainer and an online English teacher. I have experience teaching students from PreSchool through to 9th grade, both in a regular classroom and also in a virtual classroom. For me as an educator, it has been rewarding at every level to nurture and foster early skills and equip young learners with the tools they need to inquire and question about the world around them. I love to see how these skills grow and develop, and support learners as they progress throughout the grades.
I believe that children learn when they are actively engaged in their learning, sharing their ideas and collaborating with their peers. Learning is inspired by lessons that are meaningful and relevant to students. The lessons spark their interest, nurture and develop an understanding of a 'big idea' and build essential skills. And of course fun and enjoyment in the classroom are essential ingredients too. When students are happy and engaged, those meaningful conversations and interactions happen naturally in the classroom.
Over the past few years I have learned to surf (badly). I am by no means a good surfer (in fact I'm pretty poor), but there is nothing more rewarding than finally standing upright on that board! Its good to feel the challenge of slowly mastering the various steps, before finally mastering the 'pop-up'. And nothing more humbling than seeing the little kids whizz past you as you struggle to master those skills during the process!
