Welcome to my ongoing sewing class listing! I'm so happy you're here and I can't wait to share the sewing skills I've been gathering for over 30 years. Sewing has brought me so much joy and satisfaction and I know you will love it too. Prerequisites for this class: Students must know the basics of using their sewing machine and how to thread the machine. In this ongoing class students will be making a large variety of fun, small projects. Some lessons will cover skills such as doing alterations or repairs on clothing. Each lesson will provide students with new insights, confidence, skills and practice that will give them a lifetime of useful abilities. This is a fun class and I hope you can join me! Patterns and instructions will be provided each week and students will be responsible for checking the classroom for messages and files that can be printed and/or downloaded. I will remind students to check for instructions that may include cutting out pattern pieces and fabric before class. Parents will also need to help students to have the needed materials. Basic sewing tools are listed in the materials section of this listing but each lesson may have additional materials needed and they will be on the files that I will list on the classroom page. (This is the page where students enter the classroom) Upcoming projects are as follows: December 14 - A quick and easy bookmark December 21 - A cute pincushion December 28 - A pretty fabric flower January 4 - An easy drawstring bag January 11- A hair scrunchie January 18 - Making your own bias tape...what it's for and why to make it yourself January 25 - This week we'll make a quilt sandwich. Students will learn some very basic quilting skills February 1- A simple potholder February 8 - A heart sachet (a little fabric heart filled with a mixture of fiberfill and lavender flowers or scented oil.) February 15 - An easy lined zippered bag February 22 - A wristlet key fob with a metal clip...a really useful item and makes a great gift too! March 1 - A cute mini fabric basket. This basket is so cute! March 8 - This week we'll make some bowl/jar covers. Students will learn to easily adjust the size. I'm looking forward to meeting you in my class! :) >>>If you don't see a time that works for you, please let me know. I would be happy to open a more suitable time for you if possible. My teaching style is patient, relaxed and encouraging. I want every student to feel welcome and wanted in my class! *If a student is late I will stay at least 15 minutes, send a message as a reminder and check my messages. If students don't arrive after 15 minutes I will leave the class. * If a student has a lot of background noise I will mute them. If a student has animals interfering with their concentration, is playing with things not class related, or fails to bring the materials needed I am not responsible if they cannot finish the projects. I love all my students and really want them to feel the accomplishment that comes with making something nice. So I will do my best to help them along and remove any distractions.
Metas de aprendizaje

Orientación para padres
There will be sharp objects used for these lessons. Supervision is left to the parent's discretion.
Lista de útiles escolares
Learners will need these basic supplies: *a sewing machine in working condition *an iron and an ironing board or heat safe surface to iron on (a yard of fabric folded smoothly into multiple layers can serve as a makeshift ironing surface) *sharp sewing scissors *thread - a regular spool of all-purpose thread and a bobbin (extra empty bobbins are important to have on hand) *sewing machine needles (1 universal needle in the machine and at least 1 extra. For some projects a heavier needle, such as a jeans needle, will be needed) *sewing chalk or other marking tool (Frixion pens by Pilot are my favorite. Their ink disappears when heat from the iron touches it) *a seam ripper *pins *a tape measure and seam gauge or ruler *fabric and a few other small notions will likely be needed and will be on the weekly files listed on the classroom page. (For most of our projects, cotton quilting fabric will be needed. Fat quarters are sold in approximately 18" by 21" pieces in many colors and prints and are often on sale for $1.00 each)

🌸 Hello! It’s so nice to meet you. I’m currently teaching the wonderful craft of crochet here on Outschool. I’ve been crocheting since I was a little girl and I still get excited about every new project I start! What makes me even happier is to see the excitement on the faces of learners when they learn to crochet themselves.
🌸I recently completed my B.A. degree in Clerical Education and I am a certified ESL teacher with a 120 hour TESOL Certificate. I’ve been a reading tutor and have taught English to many children. I've also been enrolled for many years in a training program that involves volunteering to teach people of all ages.
🌸 When my grown children were young, I enjoyed home-schooling them for part of their education. I fully support the idea of home-schooling and the appreciate the dedication of families who are able to do it.
🌸 I love crochet, crafts, sewing, cooking and organic gardening ...anything creative.
🌸 My philosophy when teaching children is to encourage and support them as much as possible, while being sure to patiently and kindly correct them when they make mistakes. I feel that there are no mistakes in my class....only opportunities to learn. I am a fan of alternative learning philosophies that allow for learners to explore their interests, learn progressively at their own level, include plenty of physical activity, and other ideas that seem to be absent in the typical classroom.
🌸 I was very shy when I was little, so I understand when students need time to warm up to new people.
🌸 I have some experience working with people with disabilities, such as autism. They have a special place in my heart along with elderly people.
🌸 My husband and I have 13 lovely backyard chickens that we enjoy taking care of. We always feed the squirrels in our back yard (along with stray cats and birds too!) and the squirrels sometimes tap on the glass door to ask for peanuts.
🌸 I’m excited to be a part of the Outschool community and I can’t wait to meet you!
