In this one hour class we will use a polymer oven bake clay, such as Fimo or Sculpy, to make a lovely miniature woodland landscape. We will discuss how to use small, simple parts in order to construct a larger, more complex landscape. I will show step by step directions and discuss what I am doing, however, the younger learners may require parental assistance making the clay more malleable. We will also be using small bits of wire to help hold everything together, soft aluminum wire is best. The students may require assistance cutting the wire, though if the wire is soft enough and the wire clippers are safe to use, they should be able to complete that independently. At the end of the lesson, once our landscape is complete, the learners will need assistance with the use the oven in order to bake the completed project. Note to parents, please be sure to follow instructions when baking the clay. The temperatures for this kind of clay is often quite low (around 250 degrees), and is stated on the clay box or wrapper.
Metas de aprendizaje
The students will have to practice their problem solving skills. While this is only a single time clay class, those skills will be helpful in many aspects of their life.

Lista de útiles escolares
The students will need the following: * Sculpy or Fimo clay in a variety of colors. I suggest the following: green (best if there is more than one shade of green), white, black, yellow, red, blue, brown. * Something that the student can use for a base of their landscape. This is optional, as we can make an island out of clay as well. However, in the past we have had great success with using the following: small ceramic flower pot dish, the top or bottom of an aluminum mint tin, etc. If the student decides to use a non clay base, keep in mind that it has to withstand the oven heat. * Armature wire/soft aluminum wire * Jewelry wire cutters that are safe and easy to use. * Basic clay tools. In the absence of the tools, a toothpick, or a large plastic sewing needle will work for most things. I am happy to provide links or photos of the materials upon request.

Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Hi, my name is Mariya, and to put it simply, I love art. I love to make art, and to share my passion with others. I love sharing my skills with my students. My favorite part is seeing them embrace and enjoy the process of art making, making connections between the art and their daily lives.
I have been teaching art classes privately in NJ. I have taught homeschooling art classes, adult art classes, as well as private instruction.
I grew up in an art school. Quite literally! My family's flat was in the same building that housed the city art school. Unavoidably, the love for art seeped in. I have been drawing, painting, photographing, and creating, for as long as I can remember. For me, creativity is a source of peace, relaxation, and a form of meditation.
After graduating from Rutgers University, I have been teaching multimedia art. Up to this day I have not met a medium that I did not like. I always enjoy exploring a variety of mediums and concepts with my students, all whilst sharing my love for the process of art making. I currently teach art to the homeschool community, teens, and to seniors.
I have worked as a freelance illustrator and illustrated children’s books. I have also participated in public art exhibits and local shows. I continually pursue photography, drawing, and painting, always striving to be better than I was yesterday. I also volunteer on the board of a local non profit art association, Westfield Art Association, where our goal is to bring art education and opportunities in art to the community.
I am also a mom, and homeschooled my kids.
Currently, I reside in the state of NJ, with 3 dogs, 2 cats, a few children, husband and grandparents. Life should be fun and happy.
