1 hora por semana. Occasionally, learners will be required to finish their work after the class has ended for the week. I will check in, and ask them to show their work in the following week's class. Informe de progreso
It is art, and as all art is, it is subjective. I will not evaluate based on skillsets the students join to class with. However, upon request, I will be happy to provide a note indicating areas I have seen the student grow in, as well as their strengths.
Certificado de finalización
I will be happy to provide a Certificate of Completion for any family that requests it. The certificate will indicate how many weeks were spent in the class by the student.

Experiencia de clase

Hello, and welcome to class!
Below you will find some information to help you succeed!

In this year long mixed media class, we will meet weekly to create art in a wide variety of mediums - drawing, painting, and sculpting. While the topics vary from week to week, through these projects, we will explore a variety of techniques, and elements of art. Texture, tone, value, composition, use of color, and so much more!

Art making in my classes are always process focused. We will discuss art, talk about our process, discuss what challenges come up when creating art, and work out solutions, sometimes we will talk about fun facts about our subject matter. The students will be able to get the instructor's and their classmates feedback. Sometimes the art will take up more than a single lesson. The learners may need to finish their drawing independently from time to time. My goal is to make sure art is an enjoyable practice for every learner in my class.

This class does not offer child driven themes, as my other classes allow. The reason for that is that I carefully arranged the topics, making sure that we use skillsets we have learned in previous classes to go forward and succeed! However, I would like to offer flexibility to parents, and each week, we will work on a different project. If your learner feels like signing up for only a portion of the class, even after it already started, I will do my best to help them catch up, and make sure they enjoy art making no matter where in the syllabus they begin.

This art class follows the following cadence: we work together, the students work alongside me, and we check in every couple of steps. Usually there are 4-6 check-ins for the duration of the class. During class, I will be making a project, whether it is a drawing, painting, or sculpture, along with the students, but each of our drawings will come out unique and different, as they should be.

Important: it is super important to be in class on time. It helps keep the pace, and from experience, I have noticed the students enjoy starting the class together. Depending on the project, it can be difficult to catch up if you delay beginning together. If you know you are going to run late, please let me know and we will work something out!

Orientación para padres
Younger learners may need help with warming up clay or cutting wire. It is best to make sure that wire is thick but soft.
Requisitos previos
My recommendation is that the learner tries one of my subscription art classes for a week, to make sure that my teaching style is compatible with their learning style.
Lista de útiles escolares
Supplies are essential for success! Having the right paper, materials, a good eraser, etc., will enable the student to have as much enjoyment out of class as possible. Please look over at the supply list carefully. Let me know if you have any questions, or need help with finding the supply links on the web. Supplies: - Mixed Media Pad (I recommend Canson, 9 by 12). It can be used for drawing, sketching, oil pastels and chalk pastels. - Sketching Pencil Set (Complete with a good eraser, kneaded eraser, sharpener). - Color Pencils - Chalk Pastels - Oil Pastels - Wooden skewer - Cotton swab - Acrylic Paint in multiple colors. I use craft paint that can be found in Michaels. Important to have white, black, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, purple, brown. Everything else is fun and bonus. - Acrylic pad or small canvases. I never use anything more than 9 by 12 in class. I usually purchase the pad you see below, and cut each sheet in half for two paintings. - Palette - I use an old kitchen dish. - Water cup - Something to wipe the brushes with. - Watercolor paint (I recommend semi-dry, Mozart brand has been great and affordable, I purchase mine on Amazon). - Paper towels - I use old towels when working with acrylic, but for watercolor I recommend paper towels. - Brushes for painting - I recommend getting synthetic brushes, and splitting half for acrylic and half for watercolor. Do not purchase soft watercolor brushes, they are not great for beginners and do not offer enough control. - Watercolor pad of paper - Watercolor needs to have watercolor paper. Regular paper does not hold well. I recommend 9 by 12. - Masking tape. - Polymer clay in multiple colors (I recommend Sculpey III or CraftSmart by Michaels). Important to have white, black, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, purple, brown. - Toothpicks - Wire (16 gauge, aluminum craft wire that is easy for kids to cut) - Scissors - Clay tools

Hi, my name is Mariya, and to put it simply, I love art. I love to make art, and to share my passion with others. I love sharing my skills with my students. My favorite part is seeing them embrace and enjoy the process of art making, making connections between the art and their daily lives.

I have been teaching art classes privately in NJ. I have taught homeschooling art classes, adult art classes, as well as private instruction.

I grew up in an art school. Quite literally! My family's flat was in the same building that housed the city art school. Unavoidably, the love for art seeped in. I have been drawing, painting, photographing, and creating, for as long as I can remember. For me, creativity is a source of peace, relaxation, and a form of meditation.

After graduating from Rutgers University, I have been teaching multimedia art. Up to this day I have not met a medium that I did not like. I always enjoy exploring a variety of mediums and concepts with my students, all whilst sharing my love for the process of art making. I currently teach art to the homeschool community, teens, and to seniors.

I have worked as a freelance illustrator and illustrated children’s books. I have also participated in public art exhibits and local shows. I continually pursue photography, drawing, and painting, always striving to be better than I was yesterday. I also volunteer on the board of a local non profit art association, Westfield Art Association, where our goal is to bring art education and opportunities in art to the community.

I am also a mom, and homeschooled my kids.

Currently, I reside in the state of NJ, with 3 dogs, 2 cats, a few children, husband and grandparents. Life should be fun and happy.
