This course consists of 6 "traditional-style" piano lessons based on the book Faber Piano Adventures Level 2B. Each learner will need a copy of this book. Throughout this course learners will focus on reading notes and interpreting music symbols. Learners will be presented with visuals of the songs as well as a keyboard visual to facilitate understanding throughout the lesson. During each class, learners will play warm-ups, review music theory with games and activities, review previous songs and terms, learn new songs, and demonstrate good piano playing technique. Learners will learn up to 5 songs throughout this course. Learners should practice between classes to improve skills and prepare for class. Music theory in this course includes ledger lines, major, minor, chords, arpeggios, fermata, damper pedal (if applicable), and a tempo. This course is designed to follow level 2A. Learners should know how to count music in basic meters, read some notes, play chords, and recognize intervals. Learners should be able to play songs with both hands. Listed below is an outline for the course. The pacing of this course may be adjusted as needed. Week 1 Rhythm and Meter Review C major and C minor Arpeggios Week 2 Reading Intervals D major and D minor Week 3 Chords E major and E minor Arpeggios Improvisation Challenge Week 4 Symbols and Terms Review F major and F minor Arpeggios Week 5 Review Theory Concepts and Arpeggios Week 6 Review Game and Final Performances While it is not required, individual playing will help learners receive positive feedback to facilitate progress. Learners are encouraged to respond positively when others play to facilitate a safe performance space. Arranging your device to show your hands, keeping your video on during class and practicing between classes will optimize learning. Video demonstrations and other resources will be posted on the Outschool classroom to facilitate practice between classes. In Zoom, please make sure "Original Sound for Musicians" is "ON" so that the class can see your piano. Otherwise, Zoom will suppress the piano as noise.

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
Texas Certificado de Docencia en Música/Teatro/Artes
Hello! My name is Mrs. McArthur and I teach MUSIC! I am a Texas certified all-level music teacher with 29 years of teaching experience, 26 years in public schools and 3 years online and homeschool experience. I have taught preschool through eighth grade General Music and Choir classes. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in vocal music from Oklahoma Baptist University.
I believe that every learner can make music! Learners need a variety of experiences to learn music skills, including visual, aural and kinesthetic. Given sequential steps, students can achieve well beyond the expectations. When creativity is modeled, learners discover that making mistakes improves music. Learners need opportunities to be creative with choices so they can create on their own terms and interests. By making connections to science, social studies, math and beyond, students learn that subjects don’t exist in isolation. Music is the universal language and learners deserve a chance to explore the world through a musical lens!
