This book club was inspired by some of my younger years story time classes. I know so many students who love to read and are starting to venture their way into chapter books. This book club will give your learner a space to discuss and investigate a simple chapter book called Nancy Clancy Super Sleuth by Jane O'Connor. The chapters are short so the majority of our class time will be spent on discussion. I will read the chapters out loud so it is not required for your learner to have a copy of the book. During this book club we will read one chapter of our book per week. During the teacher led reading your learner will be provided a worksheet where they can write down any words they hear that sound interesting and any questions they might have. There is also a space for them to draw what they think the chapters events look like. After reading we will have fun discussing the chapter. When discussing we will use my fun elementary aged prompt called a handy hand. Our handy hand is a print out that you will be provided at the beginning of class. On the handy hand we have a visual reminder of what we are talking about during out discussion time. Discussion time topics: All of the following below are on my handy hand sheet Word whale -Were there any new words that you heard in our story today? Retell Rabbit -Can you retell what happened in our story in your own words? Problem Pig -What problem did our characters have today? Event Elephant -Were there any significant events in today's chapter? Character cat -Describe characters in today's chapter Setting Snake -Place and time a story happens Question Quail -Did you have any questions about today's chapter? I am a very interactive teacher. I encourage my students to respect each other as we take turns discussing the book. I also do my best to make sure each student feels comfortable and safe in my classroom. I do this by allowing the student to guide and gauge how much they interact. If a student is not comfortable speaking right away I allow them time to listen and will check in periodically to make sure they feel included. This class is meant for school age children to be introduced to bookclubs and chapter books in a fun, interactive, and engaging way. My goal is to allow them to grow in their knowledge of how books are formed and created by dissecting each chapter as we go through the book. Another goal is for learners to fall in love with reading and grow in their confidence of chapter book reading. I hope to see you learner in my class soon.

I have been working in preschool and early childhood class rooms for over 12 years. I am now a stay at home mom to my 3 children and run a home based preschool. I love being able to connect with my learners no matter the age or ability. I try hard to construct my classes with the perfect blend of fun and learning all in one. I strive to make every learner who enters my classroom feel comfortable, happy and confident.
