In the grade 7 reading strategies class, students will engage in a comprehensive exploration of critical reading skills designed to deepen their understanding and interpretation of various types of texts. 

Students will be taught essential reading strategies that include identifying main ideas, understanding author's purpose and tone, analyzing themes, recognizing various points of view and text structures, interpreting literary devices, and comparing different texts. Through engaging activities and discussions, students will develop critical thinking skills to analyze both literary and informational texts, discerning key elements such as plot, character development, and the use of visual aids. These skills will empower students to delve deeper into the meaning of texts and make informed interpretations. Topics covered include:

𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗮, 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿'𝘀 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲
Students will learn to identify the main idea of a text, understand the author's purpose and tone, and analyze the theme. They will practice distinguishing between central ideas and supporting details, identifying the emotions or perspectives conveyed by the author, and uncovering the overarching message or lesson in literary works.

𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝗲𝘄, 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀
Grade 7 students will explore different points of view in texts, including first-person and third-person. They will analyze how text structure (e.g., chronological, cause-effect, problem-solution) affects understanding and use visual elements (such as illustrations, charts, and graphs) to enhance comprehension and interpretation.

𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀
Students will study various literary devices such as simile, metaphor, imagery, symbolism, and foreshadowing. They will learn how these devices contribute to the meaning and impact of literary works, enhancing their ability to analyze and interpret texts more deeply.

𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘀
Grade 7 students will develop skills to critically analyze both literary texts (such as novels, short stories, and poetry) and informational texts (including articles, essays, and historical documents). They will learn to evaluate the effectiveness of arguments, identify bias, and assess the reliability of sources.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘀
Students will compare and contrast multiple texts, identifying similarities and differences in themes, characters, plot structures, and narrative techniques. They will learn to synthesize information from different sources, draw connections between texts, and evaluate varying perspectives on a topic.

The class will be structured around a combination of direct instruction, guided practice, and independent exploration. Each session will include interactive discussions, close reading exercises, and small group activities to reinforce comprehension and critical thinking skills.

My teaching method will be student-centered, with a focus on active engagement and inquiry-based learning. I will use a variety of instructional strategies such as think-alouds, modeling, and graphic organizers to foster deeper understanding.

My teaching style will be collaborative and supportive, encouraging students to ask questions, share insights, and participate actively in class discussions. I will provide constructive feedback and encourage reflective thinking to help students refine their analytical and interpretive skills.

Students will have many opportunities to interact with both their peers and me. Class activities will be designed to promote collaborative learning, and students will engage in discussions and independent work to encourage critical thinking and perspective-taking.

Learners are responsible for having the listed materials on hand and printed worksheets ready. If learners are missing a material, alternative suggestions can be provided.
