Let's play some games with monsters! This multi-day class will inspire your learner to keep playing games practicing math and literacy skills even after class is over because...who doesn't love feeding monsters? Learners will have an opportunity to decorate boxes to look like monsters and then using materials provided by the teacher, the monsters will help us practice a variety of skills. This class is an extension of a popular, 5 star rated class that focused solely on math games. But I realized our monsters were hungry for more! See below for the break down of each class meeting and the supply list for what needs to be printed and prepared before the start of class. I cannot wait to play fun monster games with you! Week 1: Making our Monsters!🎨 Class will begin with an ice breaker question and then we will spend the class meeting using our gathered supplies to make 2 monsters that we will use for the duration of the class. As we create, we will talk about the kinds of monsters we are making (Are they silly or scary? What is their favorite snack? Do they have names?). Week 2: Monsters Love Math🧮 Class will begin with a number related ice breaker question. Then, using number cards, we will feed the monsters the numbers 1-10 in numerical order. We will also learn about even and odd numbers and end by reaching into the monster's mouths to pull out 2 numbers and practicing adding those numbers together. Week 3: Monsters Love Shapes 🍕 Class will begin with a shape related ice breaker question. We will then follow a shape pizza recipe to feed our monsters lunch. We will also extend our even and odd learning by sorting shapes by their number of sides. We will then reach into the monster's mouths and pull out 1 shape that we will then match with a card featuring a real life example of that shape (example: match an octagon to a stop sign). Week 4: Monsters Love Colors 🌈 Class will begin with a color related ice breaker question. We will then feed our monsters the colors of the rainbow in order. Next, we will practice color mixing using water color paint and feeding our monsters the colors we create. Lastly, we will do a fun color scavenger hunt where learners find simple, small items to feed their monsters. Week 5: Monsters Love Letters🔠 Class will begin with a letter related ice breaker question. Then, using alphabet cards, we will sing the alphabet and feed our monsters the letters in order. Next, we will identify the beginning sound in various words and feed the monster the letter that makes that sound. Lastly, learners will feed the monsters by spelling their names!
Metas de aprendizaje
In this class, learners will develop skills in four key core areas: letters, math, colors and shapes. In the area of letters, learners will associate the names of letters with their shapes, identify printed alphabet letters, and match beginning sounds in words. In the area of math, learners will count from 1-10 sequentially, practice addition and sort numbers according to groups (even and odd). In the area of shapes, learners will recognize, describe and name shapes. They will also sort objects according to groups (number of sides). In the area of colors, learners will recognize environmental patterns, classify objects by color and make predictions about what happens when you mix two colors together.

Orientación para padres
Parents, I know that learners have differing abilities and comfort levels with scissors. Therefore, it would be helpful to remain close to your learner to supervise any use of scissors as we want to ensure their safety. Also, please be sure to remain off screen as you assist your learner per Outschool's policy of only having the learner on screen. Also, please make sure to print and cut out any supplies uploaded to the classroom prior to the start of class so we can spend our time on the activities. Thank you!

Experiencia y certificaciones del docente
**Update: I am taking a hiatus from Outschool as I take care of some personal matters. Thank you to all of the learners and their families who have spent time with me learning and having fun.**
Hello everyone! My name is Miss April and I am so excited to be a part of the Outschool community! Here you will find that I love to have fun, be silly, and make learners laugh - all while learning at the same time. We do lots of crafts and hands-on activities while practicing math, literacy, and even social skills! I love hosting read alouds and book clubs for learners of all ages. I strive to engage a variety of learning styles and to create space for learners to interact with each other.
My background includes:
- Teaching Preschool at a brick and mortar school
- Serving families as a nanny: One child I cared for needed more structure and she was a little learning sponge so I created an at-home thematic curriculum that followed her interests, sparked a love of learning and reading and set her up for success at school! I also worked as a nanny when Covid shut down schools and was able to create play-based academic activities to keep those learning muscles working!
- Working in student ministry with learners grades 6-12
- Teaching ESL classes online, including a TESOL certification
All of these experiences have helped me grow in my passion for nurturing, empowering and educating learners of all ages.
Some fun things about me include:
1. I used to work at The Disney Store (and it was so much fun - I love Disney).
2. Eyeshadow palettes are a weakness of mine.
3. I have developed a love for birthday cake Oreos.
4. I have 2 kiddos.
5. I want to read all of the books and visit all of the places (let me know your favorite vacation destination when you enroll in a class)!
I cannot wait to meet you!
