Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 2 - 5
Let's trek through Mexico, off the beaten path!

In this ongoing club, students will learn about Mexican life and culture from an eye-witness perspective. We'll touch on history of various regions, customs, foods, traditions, wildlife, and languages.

To make classes fun and interactive, each lesson features:

-a full-length, custom-designed slide presentation on Nearpod
-Spanish and Native language review games on Nearpod
-a Jeopardy review game, custom-designed
-printable handout activities, custom-designed

To give you an idea of what's in store, here are the topics for the first few weeks of class:

1. Week of September 20: The Mysterious Axolotl and Xochimilco
We'll discuss the endangered axolotl and its only natural habitat on earth, Xochimilco. We'll also learn about some tourist activities your family can enjoy in Xochimilco, and how to use Spanish to make purchases.

2. Week of September 27: Fried Crickets and Crunchy Worms in Oaxaca
We talk about the unique local foods in Oaxaca, like chapulines and crunchy worm tacos! We will also learn how to introduce ourselves in Spanish. If this activity is too easy for students, then we can learn how to introduce ourselves in the local Zapotec language.

3. Week of October 4: Xocolatl and Palenque in Chiapas
We discuss the ancient ruins at Palenque, and the local Maya drink called xocolatl. We will also see some of the inventions of the Maya, including a form of soccer.

4. Week of October 11: A Giant Canyon
We will learn about an activities you can do with your family at Sumidero Canyon, as well as some of the history of this breathtaking place.

5. Week of October 18: San Cristobal de Las Casas
This week, we take a virtual trip to the colonial town of San Cristobal de las Casas to see a little about the Tzeltal and Tzotzil communities.

These are just the beginning topics for the first month. Different topics, still in the same theme, will be considered each week.

No prior knowledge of Mexico, Spanish, or any of the topics discussed is required for any single week of the class. You are welcome to join us whenever you'd like, and your child will feel comfortable and up-to-speed with the rest of the class.
