Let’s Vote for President! In this fun twist on “Would You Rather”, students will get to take to the voting booths and decide between
some of their favorite characters.

Students will be taught via Canva Slideshow presentation with interaction to add their ideas about each person to the debate. Students will get to vote with raise of hands or through the chat box function.

The opponents will be random, but will include some of these examples and more, depending on time:
Dobby vs. Groot
Mickey Mouse vs. Pete the Cat
Harry Potter vs. Draco Malfoy
Spider Man vs. Wonder Woman
Elsa vs. Sponge Bob
Rogue vs. Gamora
Voldemort vs. Hades
Star Lord vs. The Black Panther
Hermione vs. Taylor Swift
Zeus vs. Athena
Bart Simpson vs. Robin
Darth Vader vs. Jafar
The Mad Hatter vs. Luna Lovegood

Class will begin with getting to know each other and learning how the debates and voting will work. We will start with a small example of two people. I will talk to the students about the pros and cons of each person and why they might be a great president. Then we will vote. For the next groups, I will have the students discuss the pros and cons of the people matched up against each other. This class discussion of opinions and facts will use several critical thinking skills that help students to make a tough decision based on what they know. It also helps them reason with their peers on the decision they make and why they made a particular choice. After about a 5 minute civil debate on each pair, students will get to cast their "ballots" for their choice for president. This will continue through all of the different choices.

At the end of class, each student will get the opportunity to explain their choice for president out of all the potential candidates discussed in class.

There is no prior experience or knowledge needed to take this class and have a good time. Come out to discuss your ideas and have fun with debates and voting. I can’t wait to see you on Election (class) day!

As optional homework, they can write a paper based on their choice with 3 reasons why they think this would be the best choice for president. This is based off of the 6th grade US Common Core Writing Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy. W.6.2 Write informative/ explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas, concepts, and information through the selection, organization, and analysis of relevant content.

I have my BA in Early Childhood Education with an emphasis on Art with much experience in working with students and creating lessons varying from English, literature circles, science, math, and history through my semester of student teaching. I currently teach ESL online, and have done so since February, 2018- I have taught over 5,000 classes online. I have prior experience as a K-12 school substitute teacher, where I spent much time in various classes through K-12 and worked with a multitude of different types of students within various subjects like science, math, history, art, and English. I have nanny and au pair experience as well. Teaching is so essential and I strongly believe in ensuring the learning objective is completed, all while having an enjoyable and fun time. Something fun about me is I have tons of interests including: POUND cardio (I am certified as a POUND Pro Instructor - it is like drumming and dancing), ancient history and mythology (I have taken many classes on world history, ancient civilizations, as well as archaeology - where the subject matter of world mythology was part of the course), dinosaurs, superheroes, Steve Irwin, science, wildlife conservation and nature, fashion, Harry Potter, Taylor Swift, "Would you Rather..." questions, novel studies and literature, and much more!!
