This is individualized tutoring.  I'm offering lessons for are 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th graders.

I'm specializing in reading comprehension for the middle grades.  But - There's more!

I can help your middle grade child in any subject area, whether they are struggling or need enrichment to be more engaged in their learning.  This includes writing, math, social studies, science, as well as specific test prep.  I believe that all kids can learn and always strive to recognize effort and progress!  

Tutoring classes are structured according to the needs of the child and the input from the parents.  That said, I can give you an overview of my typical teaching approach:

Generally, classes are structured as follows;

Introductions and/or Introductory Activity
Daily Goal
Mini-Lesson
Guided Practice
Independent Practice
Feedback and More Guided Practice as Necessary (and as Time Allows)
Recap, Reflection, and Suggestions for Skill/Strategy Practice
Review Game (if Time Allows)

*Understanding What You Read - You Can Read The Words, But What Does It All Mean?
*Writing (So People Want to Read What You Wrote!)
*Math - Making it Make Sense  (It really is useful, by the way.)
*Social Studies - We're All In This Together
*Science - It Goes on Every Day in Every Way

I encourage interaction and have been known to use slides, games (like Kahoot),  appropriate video clips, graphic organizers, and discussion questions or quotes.  No prior knowledge of the subject area is necessary to join a tutoring session.  We can start where your child is at and take it from there.  The possibilities are endless, as is the progress kids can make with individualized instruction!
