THIS CLASS IS NOT EASY - it is for more advanced or older students in this age bracket.

For a slightly easier class use this link - https://outschool.com/classes/easy-exciting-earth-science-geology-weather-oceans-space-environment-geog-eIWYY0xa

I am very happy to facilitate moving between my Intro and Easy classes and to offer refunds if the class is the wrong level for your student.

Students can join anytime as each class can be accessed as stand alone subject even though all the classes connect together to make a full course.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a lecture style class with opportunity for questions and not an interactive "join in" class - therefore it may be more suited to advanced students and could be challenging for students who are at the younger end of the age bracket. All students will get a certificate of attendance with grades if requested.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS INTRO ▬▬▬▬▬
Welcome to the "Intro to Earth Science" course, which focuses on some of the most dramatic physical forces on Earth, with the aim of making learning fun and exhilarating. I think making lessons enjoyable and bringing science to life is the best way to get kids engaged and learning without realising it. My classes focuses on all the main topics of Earth Science: Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography and the Solar System. No previous experience necessary. This is simplified version of my Earth Science classes adapted to be suitable for younger children.

▬▬▬▬▬ SCHEDULE ▬▬▬▬▬
Semester 1 starts in late August or Early September - Thursdays start one week earlier and Mondays one week later in Autumn. Thursday classes have one week off for Thanksgiving. Semester 2 starts in the 2nd week of January. There will also be some Semester 1 classes starting in January.

You can just drop in and out of these classes at anytime. Semester 1 & 2 can be taken in any order.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬
I use PowerPoint presentations for all my classes, so I can mix text and multimedia (photos & videos) which I think makes the class more accessible and interesting. This class will be in a lecture style with an "intro-questions-repeat" format. This means I will take a few minutes to introduce a topic, using images or videos wherever appropriate in order to bring the subject alive. At the end of the section there is the opportunity to ask questions, although students can also ask questions anytime. Then we'll move on to the next exciting sub-topic and supporting material and then field questions if there are any. This means that you can enjoy the class however you like. Speak up and get involved and ask questions, or just listen and enjoy with no pressure.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ COMMUNICATIONS ▬▬▬▬▬
Please contact me to arrange either one-off or ongoing bespoke 1-to1 tuition sessions.

I generally reply within a few hours during term time weekdays. I try and reply within one working day. Please bear in mind I am on UK time, so at least 5 to 8 hours ahead of the USA.

If you try my class and it is not quite right, then I don't want anyone to leave unhappy, please contact me and I can help.

Just contact me if you have any further questions, I am happy to help.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS RULES ▬▬▬▬▬

Please remember these simple rules so that everyone can enjoy the class.

1. Please use the hands-up emoji to ask a question, especially if you have your camera off, and then wait for your name to be called before asking your question

2. Try to only ask really really important questions – maybe limit yourself to 3 questions per class. You may not be allowed to ask more than 3 questions

3. All students must be on mute all the time unless you are asking a question – to avoid background noise, distractions and interruptions

4. ChatBox is ONLY for asking questions about the class and please only ask questions relevant to the class topic

5. No adults in class. Please make sure you are not in view of the camera.

6. If you are moving around or playing with the screen a lot, I may turn off your video because it is distracting for me

7. If a student does not follow the rules I may have to put you in the waiting room or ask you to leave the class – you will get a full refund

Necesidades de aprendizaje
Structured lecture classes, so participation optional, relieves anxiety Mixed media slides for different learning styles Engaging topics keeps attention Slides can be seen before class Multi-choice questions avoids penalising spelling
Orientación para padres
Some classes talks about Global Warming and Climate Change causing more frequent natural disasters. It also talks about mass extinctions including the possibility of humans causing one now (including ourselves) and has some drawn images of animals dying to become fossils. It is delivered in a upbeat manner with positive solutions (eg: switching to renewable energy), but the more sensative students may find these topics distressing.
Requisitos previos
None. Although younger kids may find this course challenging as this is a lecture style class with opportunities for questions and not an interactive "join in" class - therefore it may be suited to more advanced students.
Recursos externos
Los estudiantes no necesitarán utilizar ninguna aplicación o sitio web más allá de las herramientas estándar de Outschool.
