📢 Class Age Groups & Tuesday Class Timing The 1:15 PM (Eastern) class is mostly ages 8-11 and may run slightly over time. This class is scheduled to end at 2:05 PM, but it tends to run until 2:15 PM due to the majority of the kids being a bit younger. The 2:15 PM (Eastern) class is for ages 12 and up and will run on schedule. Are you LOQUACIOUS? Has THE CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE? Not sure what that means? Then this class is for you! Designed for ages 9-13, this fun and interactive course teaches advanced vocabulary through pictures, rhyming words, and hilarious vocabulary cartoons. We’ll also dive into the fascinating history of idioms, uncovering their origins and the time periods they came from. Learn something new and "tickle your funny bone" while you’re at it! This 50-minute course introduces 5 new vocabulary words and 5 new idioms each week. Students will learn how to use the words in context and discover practical ways to incorporate them into everyday life. Classes meet once a week, and learners can join at any time—each lesson is a self-contained adventure in language and history! The English language is truly beautiful, offering countless ways to say the same thing—some more eloquent than others. Adages are like the sweet cherry on top of our daily speech! Join me to discover new ways of expressing old ideas and take a fun step toward building your vocabulary. Each class begins and wraps up with an exciting Kahoot game to review what we’ve learned! No need to be perfect—this class is all about having fun and learning together. No prior knowledge is needed—just bring a pen, paper, and a separate device for Kahoot. Let’s dive in and expand your skills! PLEASE NOTE: The 1:15 PM (Eastern) class is primarily ages 8-11, while the 2:15 PM (Eastern) class is ages 12 and up! The 1:15 class is scheduled to end at 2:05 PM but often runs until 2:15 PM to accommodate the younger age group. Each week, both classes will explore 5 new words and 5 new idioms. Bonus words may be added if students are excelling! If I notice anyone struggling with certain words, I’ll revisit them in future sessions with fresh cartoons or new explanations to ensure understanding. To boost confidence, especially for reluctant learners, some weeks may include more familiar words alongside advanced ones. This keeps learning fun, approachable, and exciting for everyone!

Important Class Information
⚡ Fast-Paced & High-Energy Learning!
This class is fast-paced and interactive! Notes will have to be taken. Some of my class sizes are larger, which keeps the energy high and makes it easier for shy students to participate.
Please make sure you are okay with the class size before registering! (FYI: I have ALWAYS taught larger classes and am very skilled at managing and engaging large groups of 20-30 students daily for the last 23 years—this is a breeze! They are in good hands! 😊)
⏳ Class Start Time & Waiting Room
While the class start time is listed, please patiently allow up to 5 minutes past the start time in the waiting room before we get started. This ensures that most students can arrive before class begins and allows me to follow Outschool’s policies on allowing students to enter.
📢 Class Age Groups & Tuesday Class Timing
The 1:15 PM (Eastern) class is mostly ages 8-11 and may run slightly over time.
The 2:15 PM (Eastern) class is for ages 12 and up and will run on schedule.
Tuesday 1:15 PM (Eastern) Class: This class is scheduled to end at 2:05 PM, but it tends to run until 2:15 PM due to the majority of the kids being a bit younger.
🎮 Use of Kahoot in Class
Kahoot will be used at the end of class on a separate device to review what we've learned for the day. Please be advised, especially for younger children. Please download the app and create an account (if necessary) before the first day to avoid delays.
Enrollment & Payment Policies
💰 Discounted Enrollments
Discounted enrollments are not eligible for pausing or unenrolling.
If you pause more than once, you can continue the class, but must re-enroll at full price.
If you unenroll, you will need to rejoin at full price.
No transfers for discounted enrollments.
💳 Payment & Refund Policy
Outschool processes payments weekly (usually on Sundays).
If you miss a payment, you must re-enroll at full price—unfortunately, I can no longer create weekly manual links for missed payments.
Pausing your enrollment does not hold your seat in Outschool’s system.
New discounts are for new students only (not existing students). No transfers.
One discounted seat per family—additional enrollments must be at full price (unless you ask me ahead of time, in which case I will honor it!).
⏳ Missed Classes & Waitlisted Students
If a discounted enrollment student has missed 3 or more classes, I may need to offer their spot to a waitlisted student. The class is full, and there are others eager to join.
📺 Multiple Learners on One Screen
Siblings or multiple students can use the same screen, but each must be enrolled separately in the class and have their own learner profile with Outschool.
🔄 Refund Policy
I strictly follow Outschool’s refund policy as it pertains to this class. If you are beyond the refund window, reach out to me, and as a courtesy, I will try to see if I can assist in another way. However, there is no guarantee that another arrangement can be made.
Final Note 💛
Most of you know me well by now and see my heart. I am very nice! But we also have to be mindful that we are not taking advantage of one another. 😊
Thank you for being part of this amazing learning adventure! 🎉🌍🔎

Hello, and welcome to Vocabulary Cartoons and Origins of Idioms! My students (and friends) call me Ms. Erica!
I love idioms! I love vocabulary! My parents often spoke in parables around the house when I was young. Since discovering the term “idioms” as a child, I’ve been a mental collector of them, reciting them often, researching their origins, history and stories since I was a kid! I also read the Childcraft Dictionary and Thesaurus for fun! While learning about idioms and vocabulary, I learned the beauty of language, culture, and became an avid reader and lover of vocabulary, adages, poems and other expressions of the English language! I still study them, so I would say I am a self-proclaimed expert in the field with a passion to share what I know!
I love poetry, art, music and different expressions of the human cultural experience!!! In my spare time I paint a lot! A lot can be learned through the music and artistic expression of people around the world.
Teaching is my passion, and for the past 22 years, I have been lucky to do what I love. I teach 3 classes totaling about 90 teenagers daily. I run a Multi-Cultural Homeschooling Group of over 200 families where I teach children ages 8-12 a variety of subjects. I am also a full-time homeschooling mom to my amazing 11-year-old daughter.
I have a passion to share what I know! In my classes I provide extraordinary experiences through unique use of humor and video during lessons making learning fun in our relaxed classroom setting.
I am always excited to learn new things! The best investment you can make is the one you make in yourself! I work consistently to improve my skills, and continuing professional training is absolutely an integral part. Every year I take advanced instructor training courses to stay abreast of the current teaching methods and techniques available to prepare for fantastic individual learning opportunities. I pride myself on this.
