Do vegetables die when you pick them? What happens when you add red food coloring to celery water? what happens when you add vinegar to orange juice? Baking soda? Let's take an adventure! For ages 8-13, in this weekly class we will use fun food experiments to discover more about science and the scientific method! Your science lab could be as close as your kitchen! The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! is a 30-40 minute easy course. Classes begin daily with a quick introduction of the scientific concept we will be studying for that day. Learners will learn one new concept per class. PLEASE NOTE: FEATURED CLASS TOPICS FOR EACH WEEK ARE STILL IN DEVELOPMENT AND ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE SLIGHTLY It doesn't happen often at all, but due to some very recent policy changes at YouTube, occasionally when I play a video from their platform, a 10second ad comes on beforehand. This is happening a lot with all teachers! I am working VERY HARD and diligently for a workaround. I know it is probably not a big deal, I know, I know…… but like to keep parents informed :) Class 1) Week of Sept 1: The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Non-Newtonian fluid 9/4/24 What's this gooey stuff? Class 2) Week of Sept 8:The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Ph Scale: Acids and Bases 9/11/24 What make orange soda fizz? Class 3) Week of Sept 15: The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Phase Inversion> Fats and Liquids 9/18/24 A buttery good time! Class 4) Week of Sept 22: The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Density affecting Buoyancy 9/25/24 Drop an egg in the ocean! Class 5) Week of Sept 29: The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Calcium Carbonate 10/2/24 Bounce that egg! Class 6) Week of Oct 6th:The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Osmosis 10/9/24 Who is Osmosis anyway? Class 5) Week of Oct 13: The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic Molecules The Great Soap Trap! Class 6) Week of Oct 20th:The Kitchen Science Squad: Cookin' Up Chemical Curiosity! Featured Topic: Salinity, Sugar Concentration, Buoyancy and Density Floating Oranges! NOTE: Ongoing courses do not have an end date, new topics will be introduced in upcoming weeks. Occasionally we'll be revisiting some of the featured topics, exploring it from a new angle but with new insights, discoveries and added layers of information! This creates an entirely different learning experience, pushing our science understanding to the next level. Kahoot may be used to review concepts! I will let you know in advance in our classroom when those reviews will take place! Come with me and discover science in foods! This class is all about having fun and learning. No prior knowledge is required. Just a pen and paper! While the class start time is listed, please patiently allow up to 5 minutes past start time in the waiting room before we get started so that most students can arrive and I can follow Outschool’s policies on allowing students to enter.

Hello, and welcome! My students (and friends) call me Ms. Erica! I am an ACE Educator on Outschool!
My classes are as unique as I am! I have big red hair, and a bigger personality that comes through in my instruction. My teaching style is quick, witty and personable, just like me! My teaching philosophy is not based on perfection, its based on knowing that all children can learn, and when given the right tools, they will. I believe that every learner is different, so you have to use all available skills and tactics to reach all of them! I allow for learners to make mistakes, while teaching that all of them can succeed. Each learner is different, so I use multiple methods to reach, and inspire each learner with their most effective way of learning.
Teaching is my passion, and for the past 22 years, I have been lucky to do what I love. I am a Senior Licensed Certified Instructor of the Driver’s Education Program for teenagers and adults. I teach 3 classes totaling about 90 teenagers daily. I run a Multi-Cultural Homeschooling Group of over 200 families where I teach children ages 8-12 a variety of subjects. I am also a full-time homeschooling mom to my amazing 11-year-old daughter.
I am an expert in the field with a passion to share what I know! In my classes I provide extraordinary experiences through unique use of humor and video during lessons making learning fun in our relaxed classroom setting.
We only retain 10% of what we read and 20% of what we hear, but 80% of what we personally experience. I want to provide an experience! I’ve taught and continue to work with children and adults with disabilities, language barriers and people from all walks of life, so my classes are taught from varying perspectives with patience and understanding. My oldest daughter was homeschooled and has learning disabilities, so I know firsthand that learners must be exposed to a broad range of teaching methods, rather than just one. I am sensitive and responsive to the needs of children and their parents because I too am a homeschooling parent. I am ready to provide stellar service, feedback and support to Outschool families.
I am always excited to learn new things! The best investment you can make is the one you make in yourself! I work consistently to improve my skills, and continuing professional training is absolutely an integral part. Throughout the year I take advanced instructor training courses to stay abreast of the current teaching methods and techniques available to prepare for fantastic individual learning opportunities. I've taken dozens! Most recently I've taken Race and Learning Disabilities: Barriers and Ramps to Ensure Robust and Appropriate Teaching and Learning, The Presence and Absence of Asian America: What Truths Lie Beyond the Headlines?, and Gamified Learning for teachers! I am an ACE educator with Outschool. I pride myself on this.
I love poetry, art, music and different expressions of the human cultural experience!!! In my spare time I paint a lot!
