Charla de filosofía moral en casa: Análisis filosófico de las fábulas de Esopo

Contrary to popular assumptions, Aesop's Fables are not just for kids, nor were they specifically written for them. How do their messages hold up over 2,000 years later? Let's chat together about their modern day application and relevance!

In this one-time class, we will explore moral lessons from select fables from Aesop. We will also examine the powerful use of storytelling, animals, and metaphor in moral reflections. 

Material covered will be:

- Who was Aesop? What is a fable? What are the value of many of Aesop's Fables? How do they help serve as universal metaphors for human nature as well as moral lessons? 

- We will also read select fables and discuss their modern-day relevance and application. 
 
- Depending on time and level of discussion, the fables explored will be chosen from the following: 

The Fox and the Crow, The Shepherd's Boy and the Wolf (edited for age), The Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (edited for age), The Hare and the Tortoise, The Boys and the Frogs (edited for age), The Dog in the Manger, The Fox and the Grapes, The Beekeeper, Father and Sons, The Grasshopper and the Ants, The Wild Boar and the Fox, The Lion and the Mouse. 

- After class, students will also receive an activity sheet on how to make their own Aesop's Fable! 


This class will not be a lecture, but will be discussion-based and learner-centered. My role will be to engage the students with questions based on a basic outline and to serve as a guide/moderator to keep us on task. The main goal will be for students to engage in discussion with each other and share their own insights and views. Given our class goals, cameras are required to be kept on.
