Experiencia de clase

I am excited to offer this flex class for students that have completed the first half of the Level 2A Piano Adventures Lesson Book skills. In this flex version, students will continue using the piano method book "Faber Piano Adventures Lesson Book- Level 2A (blue). This is for students that have completed instruction in the first half of the Faber Piano Adventures Level 2A Lesson Book (Piano Class #9) or the equivalent. Students should be able to play with hands together in C position as well as G position. They should also know about half steps and whole steps as well as notes (whole note, dotted half note, half note, eighth notes) and rests (whole rest, half rest, quarter rest).

Each week, an assignment sheet will be uploaded into the classroom on Monday morning. This assignment sheet will include several videos (approximately 8- 13 minutes each in length) as well as additional assignments. In these videos, I will be teaching the skills that they will be learning for that week. Continuing music skills, such as learning about the D and A 5-finger scales, ledger line notes, minor 5-finger scales, and using lead sheets will be introduced in this class.

Additional activities, such as piano melodies to play, composition activities and other theory activities to help reinforce skills learned will be sent at times throughout the 8 week class. Students will be expected to record and upload videos of themselves playing songs they have learned. They are encouraged to share these with me, as well as the other students. They will also have opportunities to share their theory activities in the classroom.

The videos that will be uploaded each week will be of me teaching the students each particular skill and how to perform that skill. I will include plenty of repetition while performing that skill so that students can learn as they go. The class videos include two camera views. One of the views is from the end of the piano so that students can see from that angle. The more important camera view will be from above the keyboard. Students will be able to see my hands on the keyboard so that it is clear which notes and which fingers they should be using. Each week students will be given an assignment including pages in the book to practice. Additional songs may be sent home as supplementary songs that will reinforce the skills that they have learned in that particular lesson.

COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES:
Activities will be used throughout this course that require communication between students and the teacher. Each week, the videos will be uploaded on Monday. Along with these videos, an assignment will be listed as well. I will send a scavenger hunt list of items for each student to find on this piece of music. They can use the classroom to ask other students about any items that they might not be able to find. Students may create easy rhythm and melody composing activities that are to be uploaded and shared with other students in their class. Students will be expected to upload a short video each week playing one of the songs from their lesson that week. These assignments are due by Saturday morning of each week. Teacher feedback and discussion will follow up each assignment uploaded.

The basic weekly schedule will look something like this:

Week 1- There will be review at the beginning of the week. Students will learn the D 5-finger scale and review transposing.

Week 2- Students will continue learning to play using the D 5-finger scale. Written activities will give them opportunities to
                    use this scale for compositions.

Week 3- Students will learn about the A 5-finger scale and learn to play chords in this position.

Week 4- Students will continue learning to play songs in the A 5-finger position. They will learn a "boogie pattern" as well as
                    "ledger line" notes.

Week 5- Students will learn the difference between "major" and "minor" scales and the sounds that they make. They will learn a
song using a minor 5-finger scale.

Week 6- Students will continue learning to use minor scales to play different pieces.

Week 7- Students will learn chords in several minor 5-finger scale positions. They will also learn about "lead sheet" and how to
                play using these "lead sheets".

Week 8- Students will review what they have learned in this class and will have additional practice in major 5-finger scale
warm-ups using steps, skips, and chords.

Students will be sent a certificate to show completion of this class.
