 Week 1
Lesson 1
How to Make an Apple Pie
Introduce the word ingredients with the picture card. Discuss the word, meaning, and what is happening in the image. Have students brainstorm different ingredients they would need for apple pie.Using the chart, students add nouns by drawing pictures or writing.
Lesson 2
Apples
Flap-book: Students fold on the black line and cut on the dotted lines. This will create three flaps. Students have 12 picture/word cards. They will sort the nouns by types: person, place, thing.
 Week 2
Lesson 3
Honey, Honey Loin bu Jan Brett
Review nouns from last week. This week we are going to continue working with nouns. We are going to practice finding and writing nouns in sentences.
Lesson 4
African Animals
Singular Nouns in Sentences Hunt: Place the 9 sentences around the room or give a set to each table. Students will read the sentence. They will write the noun from the sentence. Then they will write whether that noun names a person, place, or thing.
 Week 3
Lesson 5
Make Way for Duckling by Katie King
Introduce verbs using the digital poster and the anchor chart. Students help brainstorm verbs to add to the anchor chart. They can look through books or around the room for verbs to add.
Lesson 6
Mallard Ducks
Act it Out: Use the cards as a class. These are verbs from the book. You can also add your own verb cards. Draw a card, have a student act it out and let the class guess what verb it is. Students choose 8 verbs from the activity to write and draw about.
 Week 4

Real Cowboys by Kate Hoefler
Introduce question marks with the digital poster and the anchor chart. Students can brainstorm sentences that need question marks to add to the anchor chart. Question Word Group Work: Give each group a question mark and a set of question words. Students cut out the question words and put into a stack upside down. They will choose one card at a time. Read the question word. Use it in a sentence verbally. Glue it onto the question mark. Do this until all words have been used.
Lesson 8
Horses
Punctuate It! Students need the punctuation mark cards on a popsicle stick. Use the sentence cards. Call out a sentence. Students hold up the side with the period or question mark based on what the sentence needs. Discuss the difference in asking and telling sentences.

I have 26 years of teaching experience and two master’s degrees plus 30. I am certified in elementary education, early childhood education, special education, learning disabilities and Primary Montessori. I have the literacy endorsement and I have also been the Literacy Teacher of the Year and Teacher of the Year. I am trained in Project Read and Ortan- Gillingham.
