▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS INTRO ▬▬▬▬▬
Welcome to the "Exciting Earth Science" series, which focuses on some of the most dramatic physical forces on Earth, with the aim of making learning fun and exhilarating. I think making lessons enjoyable and bringing science to life is the best way to get kids engaged and learning without realising it. My classes focus on the Geology and Geophysics part of Earth Science. No previous experience necessary.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬
In this class we focus on the most beautiful of all rock formations - Layered Sedimentary Rocks. We explore how they form, in diverse locations like the deepest ocean or the most hostile deserts and what happens when animals and plants get trapped in these rocks and sea levels change. We'll explore all these questions by speeding up time so that oceans come and go and mountains get formed in the blink of an eye. It is only by taking this super-human viewpoint that we can understand why deep sea animal fossils can appear on the tops of mountains millions of years later. We then look at how observing offsets in these layers can tell us about faulting and the structural geology of the area. A fascinating adventure through the history of the earth revealing how incredibly slow processes can build up over time to make the most amazing and beautiful geological structures.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬
I use powerpoint presentations for all my classes, so I can mix text and multimedia and make the class more interesting. This class will be run using an "intro-discussion-repeat" format. This means I will take a few minutes to introduce a topic, using images or videos wherever appropriate in order to bring the subject alive. Then we will pause to take questions and make sure everyone is keeping up. Then we'll move on to the next exciting sub-topic and supporting material, and then pause for questions after that one too. This means that you can enjoy the class however you like. Speak up and get involved and ask questions, or just listen and enjoy with no pressure. If you like this class then you check out my full "Earth Science" courses, with subjects cherry picked to choose the most interesting, accessible and relevant Earth Science subjects for kids, so they learn to enjoy exploring the world around them.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ LINKED TOPICS ▬▬▬▬▬
This class can be taken on its own, but is best understood along with my other "Exciting Earth Science" classes on:
1) Exciting Earth Science: Where Oil, Gas & Coal Comes From - How We Find and Extract It
2) Exciting Earth Science: The Carbon Cycle, Greenhouse Effect and Renewable Energy
Please see my other class listings for more lessons in the School of Hard Rocks!
Metas de aprendizaje
To discover and learn without realising it, because you are having fun! By the end of this course students will be able to explain where the different kinds of Sedimentary Rocks are made and how they interact in layers to form beautiful rock formations. We'll also look at how these layers can be pushed out of sequence by faults and how animals and plants can get trapped to produce hydrocarbon reserves and fossils.
