▬▬▬▬▬▬ DISCOUNTS ▬▬▬▬▬ If you do 7 of my one-off Earth Sceince:Geology classes you can message me and I will give you the 8th class free with a coupon. You can also try any one of my One-Off classes and then book the 8 week course and I will give you 2 classes free (one for the repeated class and one free class). Or you can just book the 8 week course and get 1 class free using this coupon voucher worth $18: PETEP8WEEKDISCOUNT18 - https://outschool.com/classes/earth-science-geology-the-earth-volcanoes-tectonics-fossils-and-rock-types-wLK4yMGL#us6TRpenz3 ▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS INTRO ▬▬▬▬▬ Welcome to the "Exciting Earth Science" series, which focuses on some of the most dramatic physical forces on Earth, with the aim of making learning fun and exhilarating. I think making lessons enjoyable and bringing science to life is the best way to get kids engaged and learning without realising it. My classes focus on the Geology and Geophysics part of Earth Science. No previous experience necessary. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬ In this class we focus on how humans have become a Geophysical Force, which means that we can affect the whole atmosphere from our combined activities. The average temperature of the Earth varies naturally from one glacial cycle to another, but now we are speeding up this process and heating up the atmosphere prematurely. This is because we have speeded up the Carbon Cycle, by releasing tonnes of carbon much sooner than it would have done naturally by using oil, coal and gas for energy and manufacturing materials like plastic and cement. First I explain how hydrocarbons are trapped in the ground over millions of years and how releasing this carbon relatively quickly causes Global Warming. Then we explore whether switching to non-carbon releasing renewable energy sources could slow this process down and what our options are and how they work. An exciting and topical exploration of the science behind the Carbon Cycle, the Greenhouse Effect and how it is caused by a growing human population and its thirst for energy and new things! ▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS STYLE ▬▬▬▬▬ I use powerpoint presentations for all my classes, so I can mix text and multimedia and make the class more interesting. This class will be run using an "intro-discussion-repeat" format. This means I will take a few minutes to introduce a topic, using images or videos wherever appropriate in order to bring the subject alive. Then we will pause to take questions and make sure everyone is keeping up. Then we'll move on to the next exciting sub-topic and supporting material, and then pause for questions after that one too. This means that you can enjoy the class however you like. Speak up and get involved and ask questions, or just listen and enjoy with no pressure. If you like this class then you check out my full "Earth Science" courses, with subjects cherry picked to choose the most interesting, accessible and relevant Earth Science subjects for kids, so they learn to enjoy exploring the world around them. ▬▬▬▬▬▬ LINKED TOPICS ▬▬▬▬▬ This class can be taken on its own, but is best understood along with my other "Exciting Earth Science" classes on: 1) Exciting Earth Science: Sedimentary Rock Layers, Petrified Animals & Drowned Forests 2) Exciting Earth Science: Earth's Core, Mantle & Crust: Seismology & Magnetism Please see my other class listings for more lessons in the School of Hard Rocks!
Metas de aprendizaje
To discover and learn without realising it, because you are having fun! By the end of this class the learner will understand what the Carbon Cycle is and how this relates to the Greenhouse Effect. We'll look at alternatives to using hydrocarbons as an energy and manufacturing source and why this is such a "hot" topic in the world today.
