Welcome to essay writing! Get your thinking caps on and be ready to write, rethink and revise your written work. Using given writing prompts, students will learn how to structure a variety of essays from beginning to end. Each week we will do a different essay. Here is what the schedule will look like: Students will be given information from a specific site to use to write their essays. They will also gather information using graphic organizers. Students will learn how to write effective thesis statements and introductions as well. Students will then create their thesis statements and outline their essays. Shortly afterward they will begin writing. Week of June 25th: Narrative essay. Students will be asked to gather information in their graphic organizers from given articles. Students will learn how to develop and organize their ideas and use transition language when writing. Students will be asked to come up with an opinion and outline for their essay. Shortly after sharing, students can begin writing. Week of July 2nd: Descriptive essay Students will be asked to respond to a piece of artwork. Students will learn how to use descriptive language that taps into their senses. Students will be asked to jot down, thoughts, feelings, and immediate reactions to a piece. Shortly afterward students will begin writing their essays. Week of July 9th: Comparative Essays Students will analyze two different events.
