Join Ms.Shanna for an engaging and diverse literary adventure as we spend each week discovering a new picture book. 📖🌅🚀🏞️🌠 🕓This class will meet twice per week on a weekly basis. That way you can join for as many weeks and new books as you would like! Every week we will use a new picture book to look at a wide variety of literary concepts. Week 1Lesson 1Day One***This will vary on the book we are reading each week*** Anticipation Set: Make story predictions Look at Text features Discuss if the book is Fiction or Non-Fiction Read the Story for the first time: Ask questions at carious pause points to engage students Activity related to the storyLesson 2Day Two***This will vary on the book we are reading each week*** Recall Story: Review the characters Review what happened in the story (this could include re-reading the story either in part or completely) Take a Closer Look: This could be focusing on a literary element Discussing Author's Purpose Make Text Connections Comparing and Contrasting Making an Inference Students will have the opportunity to complete a graphic organizer to demonstrate understanding.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.2 Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.3 Describe how characters in a story respond to major events and challenges.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.7 Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot.

Students should have access to paper and a writing utensil. Parents can opt to have pages printed in advance of lessons so students can write or draw picture representations.
Each week families will be sent a graphic organizer that aligns with the book. This graphic organizer should be printed out in advance of the class and students should have the page and a writing utensil available to them.
