Química I (Segundo Semestre) - FLEX

This is a semester-long course that will cover topics typically covered in the first semester of high school chemistry.  

We will cover the following topics:
Week 1: Review topics covered in Chemistry I (Mole, Balancing Equations, etc)
Week 2: The Kinetic Theory of Matter
Week 3: Behavior of Gases
Week 4&5: Chemical Quantities
Week 6: Review/midterm
Week 7: Water and it's solutions
Week 8: Acids, Bases, and pH
Week 9/10: Acids, Bases, and pH (2)
Week 11: Chemical Reactions and Energy
Week 12: Oxidation-Reduction Reactions




This course will include video lectures that the students can watch on their own time.  Each week, they will have assignments to check their understanding.  They will need to participate in the weekly Quizziz to help solidify their understanding.  I will also be available once a week for office hours. I will need you to let me know if you plan on attending.  I will check in with the class each week through the classroom.  Students will be able to schedule office hours with me if they feel like they need extra help.  I am also always available for tutoring.

While the lectures are prerecording, the students will be able to follow along using Quizziz and answer questions during the lesson to check to see if they understand the material or if they need to go back and review. 

Students will be able to interact with the teacher and other classmates by participating in the weekly discussion in the classroom.  Each week, there will be a discussion topic where students can share their ideas/opinions on a topic related to what we learned that week. 

Semester project:  Students will want to begin thinking about this at the beginning of the semester.  They will be able to pick a topic and develop a project throughout the semester.


Labs/demonstrations:  I will do my best to incorporate labs that use household material.  When that is not possible, I will post videos for the students to watch.  There will be a discussion related to any labs or demonstrations. 

Assessments:  There will be two informal assessments.  If the student or parents requires a grade, please let me know.  In addition to these assessments, there will be several mini-quizzes or assessments to check students' understanding.  Students will at times, be able to help design questions for their peers as well. 

A book is not required, but may be beneficial to the student.  Textbooks can be expensive so I would advise looking for an older edition or a free online edition.  It just needs to cover the topics listed in this course.  If you have questions about a book you want to buy, please message me.  I would be more than happy to help you.
