📝✏️If you can learn to write a good, solid paragraph, you can use that skill to compose an essay 📄, a research paper 📊, a book 📚. The paragraph is the foundation for all writing, and in this class students will learn the 3️⃣three steps to writing excellent paragraphs. ➡️Before enrolling in this class, students should be able to compose a short sentence on their own. If your student needs a little help getting started writing sentences✏️✏️, please check out 👀my course, "Creating Super Sentences: Elementary Writing for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grades" first. I use google slides to teach my classes, so students will see 👀 all lessons on the screen and be able to interact 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏾 easily in the classroom. The topics for each week in this course are: 1️⃣ Body Sentences 2️⃣ Topic Sentence 3️⃣ Concluding sentence 4️⃣ Share and practice 💁🏿♂️💁🏽♀️ 📋✏️ During the four-week course students will work on a paragraph independently outside of class. They will add the component they learn each week in class to their own paragraph. If you would like feedback on your student's work, you will be able to submit it to me into the classroom for comments and suggestions. 👏🏽👏🏽 For the last week of class, students will have the opportunity to share their original paragraph with the class if they choose to do so. For those students who may be a bit shy about sharing their work, they may submit a copy of their paragraph to me, and I will read it for them. Students should feel confident 💪 to share their work since they will have the opportunity throughout the course to have their work critiqued, allowing them plenty of time to edit mistakes and perfect their paragraphs. Students should begin thinking 🤔 about what topic they would like to write about for their paragraph. It's usually best if they choose something they already are familiar with. Some examples may be: why I like a certain season ☀️🌦🌨☃️; best activities for summer ⚾️🏄🏽♀️🛹; a favorite food (or favorite anything) 🍔🍉🍕; describing an object, animal, or activity; telling about a person 👨🏽🔬👨🏼🌾👵🏼, etc. ⭐️⭐️IMPORTANT NOTE: If you prefer a different class time than what I have offered, please submit a request for a new section. I teach Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. EST - 5:00 p.m. EST. I will be happy to consider your request for a new class section. ✍🏻✍🏻As a college journalism major, I've always enjoyed writing, both the physical act of holding a pen in hand and the creative aspect of turning thoughts into interesting, expressive sentences and sentences into paragraphs and papers. I hope to pass along the joy of writing as well as the mechanics to all of my students. 😃😃

Licenciatura desde Texas A&M University
Howdy from East Tennessee! I’m Shelley Greaney, and I love teaching on Outschool. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in journalism with a minor in English. I'm a mother of six, grandmother of five, and I home schooled all of my children for a total of 26 years. I began teaching online five years ago as an ESL teacher and then started nutrition and grammar classes on Outschool. I also taught as a volunteer for elementary-aged children for ten years.
As a true grammar nerd, I offer foundational grammar classes for grades one, two, and three. The Great Grammar Adventure, a 29-week ongoing class, covers over a semester’s worth of grammar topics with two writing units, as well. I'm always looking for ways to make grammar more interesting for students.
I also teach First Grade Curriculum for K-1st graders. This class meets three times per week and covers a variety of topics including phonics, math, language arts, telling time on an analog clock, reading a calendar, social skills, and so much more. Students enjoy a new theme every week, worksheets to reinforce what we learn in class, and Show & Tell at the end of every class.
I believe learning should always be engaging, fun, and practical, and I work very hard to make sure each student, regardless of level, feels successful in class. I incorporate fun-themed slides, open-ended questions, scaffolding, and discussion to keep kids interested and engaged in class. I believe in letting kids share and participate in class, while maintaining an organized learning atmosphere. Lots of smiles and laughter are welcome in my classroom every day. I hope to see your child in my zoom room sometime soon.
