Attention! Attention! 📣📣 Calling all first graders!

🎉Come and join this lively, early-elementary class taught by a homeschool mom veteran with over 25 years of teaching experience!

⭐️This class will meet three times per week. Each week we will focus on a different theme as we cover reading (Tuesdays), math (Wednesdays), and Language Arts (Thursdays). Each day at the beginning of class we will go over the date, time on an analog clock, two weekly sight words, and counting/place value as we learn about our theme for the week.

⭐️⭐️Since this is an ongoing class, your learner can join any week. The lessons will not build on each other, and we will review frequently throughout the year

📆This class will continue year round, so feel free to have your learner join at any time.

💁🏻‍♀️I teach my classes using colorful slides that I create on Canva. I consider myself to be a patient, enthusiastic teacher, and I love interacting with this age group and helping them to feel successful in every class. This class is perfect for the advanced kindergarten student and on-level first grade student.

📂I will send worksheets and coloring pages at the beginning of each week so learners will have something to practice after class to reinforce what we've learned. This class will be interactive as a group, so I will often ask questions of the class as a whole and of individuals. Students are given the chance to share throughout class.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Some learners like to write or draw during class. Feel free to have them make use of their worksheets, especially the handwriting practice, as we go over it in class. Students may prefer to use a small whiteboard to practice writing and numbers, then they can hold it up so I can see it. Feel free to provide your student with what will work best for them or maybe even nothing at all. Many students prefer to just listen during class.

👂During class, I will sometimes mute students to cut down on noise levels. I prefer not to mute students, but if class size is large, sometimes it is necessary to keep the class orderly. I try to let students know if I am muting them due to noise in their background and that it doesn't mean they will have to stay muted during the whole class. PLEASE make sure your student knows how to use the unmute button so they will be ready if I call on them. It can cause a lot of frustration for students if they have trouble unmuting, so please practice with them and make sure they can use it well. I can only request that your student unmute himself; I am not able to unmute him.

✋🏾I encourage students to raise their hands or their emoji hands if they have a question or comment during class. I ask that if students have something to share, they wait and save it for the end of class. I always save time at the end for students to share anything they would like during our Show and Tell time, and they are eager to do so. We have a lot of fun seeing all kinds of toys, drawings, craft projects, and even hearing jokes!

🥳🤩We have such a great time in this class, and I can't wait to meet your student! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Howdy from East Tennessee! I’m Shelley Greaney, and I love teaching on Outschool. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Texas A&M University, majoring in journalism with a minor in English. I'm a mother of six, grandmother of five, and I home schooled all of my children for a total of 26 years. I began teaching online five years ago as an ESL teacher and then started nutrition and grammar classes on Outschool. I also taught as a volunteer for elementary-aged children for ten years.

As a true grammar nerd, I offer foundational grammar classes for grades one, two, and three. The Great Grammar Adventure, a 29-week ongoing class, covers over a semester’s worth of grammar topics with two writing units, as well. I'm always looking for ways to make grammar more interesting for students.

I also teach First Grade Curriculum for K-1st graders. This class meets three times per week and covers a variety of topics including phonics, math, language arts, telling time on an analog clock, reading a calendar, social skills, and so much more. Students enjoy a new theme every week, worksheets to reinforce what we learn in class, and Show & Tell at the end of every class.

I believe learning should always be engaging, fun, and practical, and I work very hard to make sure each student, regardless of level, feels successful in class. I incorporate fun-themed slides, open-ended questions, scaffolding, and discussion to keep kids interested and engaged in class. I believe in letting kids share and participate in class, while maintaining an organized learning atmosphere. Lots of smiles and laughter are welcome in my classroom every day. I hope to see your child in my zoom room sometime soon.
