At the bottom of this description are some important notes for Parents. Please take time to read to help your student prepare for this class! On your mark, get set, BUILD! This class is for your young engineers! We will have a new Building Challenge each week and get to work building! Building with Plastic building blocks is an excellent way for our students to gain confidence, develop fine motor skills and learn about how things work! Students can come in at any level of building for this class. We will modify and adapt to our learners skill level. For students who are up for an extra challenge I will encourage extra elements for them to add to their designs! Each week we will work on the challenge through interacting and helping each other as well as well as independent work. In this class students should expect to come to class ready to build with their Plastic Building Bricks collection and a clear working space. We will introduce ourselves and dive right into building. I will provide the following for this class: 1. I will present a new challenge each week. I always show a picture or example builds to give them some ideas. 2. I will support students as they develop their building ideas. 3. I will facilitate class interaction and idea sharing. 4. I will encourage them with new ideas to adjust and improve their work. 5. I will ensure each student is given the time and attention they deserve as they work on their challenge. This is a very hands on class. There will not be a formal lecture. This is not a “how to build” class. This is a class designed to encourage the students to think on their own with my guidance. I spend time talking to each student as they work. I encourage them with idea pictures or my own builds and my own suggestions for their work. Additionally, I want our students to work on their discussions skills as they share their finished project. I also want to provide a safe space for students to work with other students and develop idea sharing skills. We will work both independently and as a collective group! I can not wait to see what these creative minds can accomplish! This class requires students have at least a small Plastic Building Bricks set and a spot to build. We want to be able to build and share! We sometimes use base plates of any size (the Brick building green or blue boards) but they are not required. I do recommend students consider getting a base plate board as some builds easier when using them! Students can also build on their table or desk. ****Just a few important notes for Parents. Please take time to read to help your student prepare for this class: 1. This is for students who are 5 years old and up. This class is not geared for students who are younger than 5. Also note that many 5 year olds are not quite ready to take class completely independently. Please ensure your learner is able to mute/unmute so that we don't have any students stuck on mute. If your student needs a lot of prodding to try and build something new this class may not be well suited for your learner. This class is geared towards students who are wanting to try new builds and learn ideas and concepts from the group. If your learner is very young or brand new to Lego's they will need a parent nearby to help. 2. During this class we will be focusing on Lego building and sharing. Please do not have children bringing other toys to class for show and share. We want to use all our class time giving each student ample opportunity to share their creations we work on in class. 3. This class is not a building set/instruction class (as noted in the description). If your student does not want to build our weekly challenge they can build their own with your permission. Many parents want their students to attempt the challenges with us so I require students to get their parents permission since the parent has paid for a challenge class. 4. If your student does not want to build with us in class please understand that class time is given for students to share their work and discuss their builds. I do my best to allow the students who are not building our theme to share but do try to focus heavily on the students who are working on their class challenges! 5. I can not accommodate same day transfers (within 24 hours of class start time) for sickness or other related issues. It takes away an open spot for some students who are trying to get into the class. If it is at all possible for me to transfer you I will do my very best to accommodate. 6. Please note this class run year long and is ongoing. Students are welcome to stop and start their subscription to accommodate their schedules. Lego builds change weekly and my themes run through the entire year. Themes are subject to repeat after one year so if you child remains enrolled themes may repeat sometime in that next calendar year! I provide several options for each build (each week). We flex for skill and age level and most challenges have several options of ways to build them! All challenges can be built easily with a basic brick set. I do recommend a base plate board for some builds but they are note required. 7. I follow the Outschool limited refund policy in an effort to keep spots free for other students! 8. Please note that the minimum number of learners is 2 for this class. For classes with 1 learner I will gladly offer a transfer to another section so that learners have someone else in class to build and chat with. 9. Please note in this class I strive to allow each student to have equal chance to speak in class (if they would like to, but it is not required). For that reason I'd ask that all students allow for their classmates to have an opportunity to speak and share. **The classroom waiting room will always open 2 minutes prior to class start time. I will open the class at start time. Please make every effort to arrive on time so that all the students can begin building (and hear the challenge for the day) at the same time. ** I will accommodate transfers outside of 24 hours notice. This allows me to transfer your student and also recoup a learner from the seat they previously occupied. I do appreciate your understanding this for my ability to allow new learners to access class. ** I do not grant refund requests for missed classes. Please refer to Outschool for refund requests related to illness or changed schedules which fall outside this classes limited refund policy.
