Experiencia de clase

The most exciting events in history are brought vividly to life in this New York Times bestselling historical fiction series! Join us as we meet to discuss one I survived! book each week, and do a fun deep dive into the historical event!

In this ongoing class, we will meet once weekly for 24 weeks to discuss our reading. During class time, full participation in class discussion is expected. There is grace for a shy student, of course, but students will be encouraged to dive into the discussion as they acclimate to the group. Each student will have a turn to share their thoughts and ideas. I will have questions and discussion prompts ready each week, should conversation lag.

After our discussion time, we will take a Deep Dive into the historic event for that week, as well as a Map Time (virtual) field trip to the location, and end with a game if time permits! My book clubs are typically highly engaging, highly interactive, very lively!

Each book is to be read ahead of time, before class. The book is also available as an audiobook! All of class time will be dedicated to discussing the books, applying critical thinking, discussing characters, plot, and other literary aspects, designing a book cover, and ending with a fun game, all related to the book. Snacks are always welcome!

*While this is a book club, and not a history class, per se, please see the parental guidance section of this listing!*

Please read or listen to the assigned book BEFORE class!

Orientación para padres
Although these books are fiction, they discuss real historic events. While the books aren't graphic in nature, sometimes they portray topics such as death, illness and natural disasters . These topics could bother some students. Parents should always preview the material to ensure that the stories are appropriate for their particular student. Occasionally, topics may touch on racism or discrimination. When these topics arise, we will apply critical critical analysis and the following areas of concern will be addressed in class: inaccurate descriptions of historical events, racism, stereotypes, cultural thinking to these topics in our discussions. stereotype or discriminatory statements made in the text or in the classroom. Students will be given opportunities to discuss how these stereotypes can damage a culture or people group. Ms. Carol has a PhD in pedagogy and history, with a Master’s in Cultural Studies. One of my core values is to teach the true and accurate version of history I was not taught as a child. Racism or racial stereotypes is never acceptable to me, and neither is a white-washed version of American History.
Lista de útiles escolares
