The ability to fly is an incredible skill that has allowed birds to inhabit every corner of the world. Even small birds can make incredibly long journeys across open water without rest. But how do they do it? In this class, students will learn what makes it possible for our feathered friends to take to the skies. Students will learn about the evolution of flight in birds, bird anatomy, as well as behaviors that allow this group of animals to fly. The class will meet one-time for 45 minutes. It is lecture-based with a slide presentation to look at pictures and diagrams to help understand the mechanics of flight. This class has no prerequisites and all students are welcome. Feel free to reach out if the available class times do not fit your schedule!

Dear Parents,
I am excited to guide your students in exploring the wonders of animals and nature! I hold a Master’s in Science with a focus on Wildlife Biology (2019) and have taught Ornithology for six years. My passion for wildlife conservation, education, and birding drives me to spark curiosity and a deeper connection with the natural world.
In my classes, students engage with scientific methods and research, learning to observe, investigate, and think critically. My goal is to inspire a lifelong love for nature and empower young learners to see the world through
a scientific lens.
