Hello and Welcome to Mr. Gulltt's (Mr. G's) On-Going Class about Alaska!

In this on-going course we will take a look at different topics about Alaska. Our course will examine the different regions of Alaska, the different environments, plants, seasons (or lack there of), the people, what Alaskan's do during the summer, what Alaskan's do in the winter, the different cultures, the road system, places that you can only fly into or ferry (or both), the rivers, the mountains, dog mushing, fun facts about Alaska, and animals. Each class will cover one of the various subjects from above. All students are encouraged to ask as many questions as they can think of. I am looking forward to you joining me on this awesome Alaskan adventure. Mr. G has 25 plus years of experience in Alaska from growing up near Mt. Denali to teaching all over the state. Also, Mr. G currently lives in Alaska.

Some classes and weeks will have a worksheet activity of information about the specific Alaskan topic and/or a worksheet activity to better understand aspect of Alaska. Example an activity with Alaskan Animals and/or an Alaskan map.

November 5
Alaska Geography - Regions (North Slope/Arctic Ocean, Interior, South Central, Bristol Bay, rivers, mountain ranges, glaciers, Gulf of Alaska, Southeast (rain forest). 

November 19
Alaskan Mountains - Denali, Mount Wrangell, Mount Edgecumbe, and Volcanoes

December 3
Alaskan Land Animals - Moose, Bears (Polar, Grizzly, Black), Sitka Deer, Dall Sheep, Caribou, Wolves, Puffins, Sea Otters, Whales, Musk Ox, and Bison

December 10
Alaskan Sea Animals - Salmon, Halibut, Seals, Otters, Whales, and the life cycle of the 5 different Salmon

General Look Into Alaskan Cultures - Interesting information and culture about as well as on each of the different Alaskan cultures that are throughout the state of Alaska. Where each culture group lived (traditional homeland), Houses and Settlement, Tools/Technology, Trade, Regalia, and Animals (food, travel, furs). I have taught Alaska History and Cultural Studies for 20 years as an educator in Alaska. I also have lived in nearly each region of Alaska (except for the Aleutian Islands and the North Slope). My degree is in Western American History/Native American History/Alaska History, and since graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA focus in these areas I have also taken several graduate courses specific in Alaska History and Native Alaskan Cultures.
