French language learners with a minimum of 2 years of French language study (3-4 is ideal) will benefit from this 4 week FLEX class about la poésie. We will read, analyze and discuss 4 famous French poems. Students will review vocabulary for speaking about poetry such as line, stanza, verse, author, theme etc. in French to be able to describe what they have read and understood. Students will be challenged to use their listening skills as they hear native speakers read the verses. Students will improve their speaking and pronunciation by reading and recording their own versions of the poem. Many students even choose to challenge themselves by memorizing it fully! All while building vocabulary and reinforcing structures through in-context grammar instruction! Week 1: Le Corbeau Et Le Renard: Jean De La Fontaine Week 2: Déjeuner Du Matin- Jacques Prévert Week 3: Le Dormeur Du Val- Arthur Rimbaud Week 4: Demain Dès L'Aube - Victor Hugo Each week, students will interact with each other and the instructor in the following ways - students will be answering comprehension and discussion questions in the class forum. We will discuss each poem in detail through videos or written responses in the classroom. -students will be asked to share drawings they create for each poem and comment on each other's drawings, noting what they found similar or different based on their understanding of the French. -students will record their own personal version of weekly poem and post it to a flipgrid where they can see the other student's recordings. They will comment and react to the other versions as well as get a chance to hear other student's pronunciation. The instructor will then give personalized feedback regarding pronunciation and intonation based on the recordings submitted.
