Nivel Advanced
In this 4-week self-paced course, we will be learning about how to work with everything surrounding complex numbers and functions. This is an advanced level course and will go at a faster pace at times. We will also cover more rigorous problems at an in depth level. Students who take this course should have completed an entire Algebra I curriculum at a high level of mastery, have a passion for learning mathematics, and have a potential interest in pursuing a career in a STEM field. Additional introductory Algebra II concepts should also be learned previously. For a thorough list of prerequisite topics, please refer to the description of my class listings titled "Advanced Algebra 2 - Units 1 & 2: Equations, Inequalities, and Factoring - Self Paced" and "Advanced Algebra 2 - Units 3 & 4: Rationals and Radicals - Self Paced". The topics for Units 5 & 6 are listed below: Week 1 Day 1 - Imaginary Unit, Powers of i, Intro to Complex Numbers Day 2 - Operations with Complex Numbers Day 3 - Graphing Complex Numbers Day 4 - Absolute Value of Complex Numbers Week 2 Day 1 - Solving Quadratics with Imaginary Roots Day 2 - Nature of the Roots 1 Day 3 - Nature of the Roots 2 Week 3 Day 1 - Functions and Relations Day 2 - Domain and Range Day 3 - Compositions of Functions Day 4 - Inverse Functions and One-to-one Functions Week 4 Day 1 - Transformations of Random Functions Day 2 - Transformations of Absolute Value, Parabolic, and Square Root Functions Day 3 - Projectile Motion Word Problems Day 4 - Average Rate of Change I will post a lesson video and accompanying documents (classwork and homework) for the first four days of each week. Students are expected to watch the video and take notes on the material that is delivered. I will then prompt students to pause the video and work on the classwork problems independently. After they have done that, they can continue to watch the video and see my explanations for the classwork problems. This is a great way for them to assess themselves immediately and know where they are comfortable and where they need extra practice. After students complete the classwork and watch through the lesson video, they will be able to work on the homework for that day. I highly encourage students to submit their homework to me on each of the first four days of the week when lesson videos are uploaded. This allows me to give actionable feedback so they can learn from their mistakes and use what they learn when they view future lesson topics. On the fifth day of each week, I will post the solutions to the four homeworks from that week. Students can grade their own assignments at this time and reach out to me for further feedback if needed. Since this is designed to be a flexible schedule course with no live meetings, we will not be meeting synchronously on a Zoom session. However, I encourage you to post any questions you have about each day's material (whether it be from the lesson, the classwork, or the homework) onto our classroom page so that I can assist you. In the past, I have found that students who are the most active on the classroom page in asking questions are the ones who get the most out of the course. Never be afraid to ask for help! And most importantly, have fun! Learning is only exciting as you let it be!
