Ninjas de los números: cómo destacarse en la multiplicación básica

Learn powerful multiplication strategies in this fun and approachable class, built on research-based and tested strategies that help kids slowly develop strong mathematical reasoning skills. Students who are looking for extra practice, who feel lost in math class, or who want to grow their brains and feel challenged will benefit from this class! 

In every class, we will engage in a series of multiplication problems that build on prior knowledge and help us to solve more complex problems. The multiplication problems are intentionally created to develop deep understanding and reinforce powerful strategies that build students' confidence and flexibility with numbers. 

Kids can join this class at any point! Participate and share your thinking and listen to other kids reason and think about the problems. This is a safe and fun space to think and grow! Listening to others is a powerful way to acquire new ideas, strategies and skills. Teacher-created visuals and models will reinforce our thinking and help students to visualize the numbers. Receive the number problems after class and try them on your friends and family! 

Students can expect to learn powerful strategies for:
- Single-digit multiplication
- Doubling
- A number x10
- A number x9
- 5 is half of 10
- Doubles +/-1 group
- Doubles +/-2 groups

**Algorithms are incredible mathematical inventions but not great teaching tools. First, we will build a deep understanding of addition, place value, and reasoning. Once kids understand numbers deeply and how to compose and decompose those numbers, algorithms will feel easy and natural!
