What a wonderful presentation Amanda Gorman gave at the inauguration! The words, so deep and so relevant provided us all with a reminder of our American journey, strength and possibilities as a unit! Such a hopeful speech. In this class learners will explore 10 creative dance moves of unity, love and encouragement to upbeat and energetic music and create a dance to a section of her newly presented "The Hill We Climb" from the 2021 Inauguration. Class will begin with a warm up to prepare our bodies to dance for the duration of the class. The class will continue with students learning step by step dance moves to specific words and phrases in the speech and taking a little time to review words and phrases they may or may not know and briefly engage with one another about how the words and phrases makes us feel and think. Thoughts and feelings will create a more meaningful idea of the words and phrases and encourage their personal version of the choreography provided. Students do not need prior knowledge or education to participate in this class. "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman We close the divide because we know, to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another We seek harm to none and harmony for all Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true: That even as we grieved, we grew That even as we hurt, we hoped That even as we tired, we tried That we'll forever be tied together, victorious
Learning Goals
Students will be briefly informed of who Amanda Gorman is, what she stood for, why and how. They will be encouraged to use the choreography provided to develop and present their version of a dance that speaks the expressions in her speech. They are not expected to be perfect, but the goal is to encourage awareness the "dancey" way.

Teacher expertise and credentials
The choreography that students will learn in this course is very special to me! This dance is a brand new dance that I look forward to teaching every year. Regardless of political views, there is no way to deny that the speech that Amanda presented was nothing less than amazing. I hope to introduce new feelings and thoughts about this thorough and everlasting speech. I have enjoyed creating this dance I am looking forward to see students get into it their own unique ways...through movement.
