Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
In this one-time class, students will learn about five animals which are generally considered to be extremely cute. We will begin with a discussion of what "cute" means when we talk about animals. We will then meet our five contestants for the World's Cutest Animal. Through photographs, questions, and interactive discussions, learners will explore what makes these five animals worthy of the title "World's Cutest Animal." We will also vote for Best Personality and Most Talented. This class will be relaxed, casual, and fun, as well as informative!

Along with "Meet the Adorable Axolotl," "Meet the Precious Pangolin," "I Like Lichens," and "Extreme Jellyfish," this class was inspired by the curiosity and interests of my students in the ongoing class, "Keeping Up With the Kingdoms."
Learning Goals
Students will learn traits of five interesting animals.

I've been studying science all my life. My father was a renowned herpetologist. As such, I grew up surrounded by animals, plants, and other life forms. I followed my interests in college by studying biology as well as education. I taught middle school science for 21 years, then worked as the middle school science education specialist for the State Department of Education in Alabama for 6 years. In retirement, I am still actively involved in many scientific communities, and stay engaged with groups such as the North American Association for Environmental Education and the National Science Teachers Association. I am passionate and knowledgeable about the study of life, and about passing on this passion to youngsters.
