Welcome to our standup comedy class for teens! In this class, we will be learning the art of standup comedy and how to make people laugh while also developing our writing skills. Learning to write is an essential life skill, and it can provide many benefits for those who take the time to develop their writing abilities. Through this class, you will learn how to write engaging and funny stories, jokes, and sketches that will captivate your audience. These skills will not only make you a better comedian but also a better writer in general. One of the most significant benefits of learning to write is the ability to communicate effectively. Writing well allows us to convey our ideas and thoughts clearly and precisely, which is important in all areas of life. Whether you are writing a college essay, a business proposal, or a personal letter, being able to express your ideas in a clear and engaging way is essential. Through this class, you will learn how to use humor and storytelling to make your writing more engaging and effective. In addition to improving your writing skills, this class will teach you how to be comfortable in front of an audience, how to effectively communicate your ideas and thoughts, and how to think on your feet. These skills are valuable not just for standup comedy but for any situation where you need to communicate effectively and confidently. Finally, this class will teach you the value of perseverance and hard work. Writing and performing standup comedy is not easy, and it takes a lot of practice and dedication to become good at it. By sticking with this class and continuing to work at your craft, you will develop a strong work ethic and a never-give-up attitude that will serve you well in all areas of life. This class will be learner directed but some topics that may be covered include: - Finding Your Unique Voice and Style - Crafting a Joke: Timing, Delivery, and Punchlines - Writing Engaging and Funny Stories - Using Humor to Address Serious Topics and Current Events - Overcoming Stage Fright and Nerves - Improvisation and Thinking on Your Feet - Building a Set: Creating a Cohesive and Entertaining Show - Special Topics: Sketch Comedy, Impersonations, and Character Development So come join us and learn the practical skills and life lessons that come with standup comedy and writing. Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach classes related to comedy and humor including sketch comedy, improv, and satire writing.
I'm an improvisor, comedian, and writer who has written professionally for web series, comic strips, and satirical publications like McSweeney's. I've been fortunate to graduate from the Second City's renowned Conservatory Program. - with leading comedy actors and writers including Kevin McDonald of TV's The Kids in the Hall and the movie Lilo & Stitch.
I believe that comedy has the ability to improve skills like interpersonal communication and writing as well as boost students' confidence. Whether a learner is the "class clown" or someone who is a bit more quiet, I aim to create a learning environment where they can have fun, gain confidence and learn new skills.
I have a bachelor of arts degree and a master's degree in business.
