US Grade 4 - 6
This is a continuation of my 3Rs Write It! Class. This is for my more experienced young writers. While your student is welcome in this class without taking Semester 1, Semester 2 does, in part, expand on topics learned in Semester 1. I am a natural writer and I truly enjoy bringing new writers to the table to share in the conversation. I've also learned that sometimes the standard expository paragraph rules don't fire every kid and creativity and imagination can be a better place to start. It is from this base I created this section semester 15-week writing course for the early writer, whatever grade they are in. The Details In this Semester 2 Writing Component of my 3Rs 3rd - 5th Grade class, we will meet for 15 weeks. A full syllabus will be available on the first day of class for enrolled students. So that you are able to see the breadth of our semester I will include approximate dates and project plans for the semester. These particular themes are subject to change. Please, make sure to reference the Outschool Classroom Page for final assignments. Your student will keep a journal of one paragraph or 5-7 sentences three times per week. All projects are due to be finished at the start of the following week EXCEPT week 15, where we will complete our project within the Outschool Classroom Page. Homework will take approximately 1/2 to 2 hours per week, depending on the project. All projects will be uploaded either to the Outschool Classroom or to me personally by the day before class at midnight. If it is sent to me privately, please reference 3-5 Write it! S2. Students may handwrite, type and save as a .doc or .pdf file, or link to a google doc to turn in homework. Other Details
Supply List
Your student is not required to type their assignments and at this age, I wouldn't even recommend it. However, please help them to take a picture of any handwritten assignments and upload them either to the classroom or to me privately. If it is sent to me privately, please reference 3-5 Write it! S2 Your student will need a notebook for their journal (or loose-leaf paper and a place to keep it for themselves), and a pen, pencils, crayons or markers, and paper for the various projects. Nothing super special, just supplies that they like to use. Yes, they may write with a pen if they want to.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Students may use Google Docs to turn in projects at the parent's discretion
Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Stacey Hamlin, and I love to teach.
I believe that we can learn anything and everything…with a few tools, and the ability to lay down our fears and try.
As a kid, I moved a lot. By the time I was 14 years old, I’d been to or through 42 states. I understand that “displacement” that people feel right now…that “loss of connection.” I believe that I homeschooled my own kids for 16 years to help alleviate that disconnectedness for them.
When my dad finally changed careers, he got “us” into Technology, and convinced me that I could teach. At 17 years old, I taught a group of men my father’s age how to use an Accounting Software that my father had programmed. It was terrifying…right up until I discovered that he had been right.
Nowadays, I teach a lot of things; English, Drama, Math…but behind every lesson is the desire to help people connect and overcome their fears. Life is hard. It’s hard when you are big, and in some ways, it’s even harder when you are small and other people make your decisions for you. It becomes easier when you realize that you are not alone…and that you really can do things that you didn’t realize that you could do.
This is a brand new school year with no mistakes in it. Let's see what amazing things we can accomplish, together.
See you in class,
Ms. Stacey
