In this ongoing class, students will learn how to sharpen their writing skills through feedback provided by an experienced writing teacher and through dialogue with peers. Students may bring to class any writing assignment they are struggling to complete, whether the work is nonfiction or literature. Topics will be wide-ranging and adaptive to the needs of each writer, but we will regularly address issues related to three goals: be organized, be thoughtful, be eloquent. Before each class,...
Students will learn writing skills that they can apply to any subject. In particular, we will work on organization, development of ideas, and grammar, usage, and mechanics in Standard American English.
For the past six years, I have taught high school students the skills needed to write an accomplished expository or argumentative essay. I am sensitive to the challenges students face in writing, and I have experience in helping students perceive themselves as writers.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
