In this one-on-one class, students will get hands-on help with specific essay assignments given to them. We will walk through the process of writing an essay from start to finish. The content of this tutoring class will slightly vary based on the essay assignment and the individual students needs. Before the first session, students need to send information about the assignment and rubric (if applicable) so I know specifically what is expected. Since this class is a one-on-one tutoring class, the schedule can be adjusted according to the student's schedule.

- Different types of essays and their purpose
- Parts of an essay
- Brainstorming activities specifically relating to the type of essay: Expert list, semantic mapping, All about list, etc...
- Narrow down the topic (if applicable)
- How to find sources on the internet 
- Taking notes on research
- Different types of essay outlines
- How to write an outline
- Ways to get a reader's attention in the introduction
- Practice different ways to capture the reader's attention and decide which one to use
- Writing a thesis statement
- Discuss the difference between revising and editing
- Revise: Does the order make sense? Does it keep the reader's attention? Does the essay do what it is supposed to do?
- Edit: Spelling? Sentence structure? Punctuation? Have citations been added (if applicable)?
