ATTENTION: I must have at least two club members to proceed with this social club. If you do not see a time which suits your schedule, please do not hesitate to contact me. Perhaps I can create a sections which will meet your needs. This is a relaxed and flexible ongoing World Geography Club where we talk about anything having to do with Geography. If you love Geography, this club is for you! A little bit about me! I am a former unschooling mom of two adult twin sons who were...
Club members will become more geographically informed. They will gain a better understanding about World Geography and, in the process, many other subjects as well. Geography is all-encompassing! As the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) espouses, "Geography is a bridge to a better understanding and appreciation of all subjects."

I am no longer teaching in a brick and mortar school. I have a LIFETIME teaching certificate for the subjects of Geography, History, Economics, & Government at the secondary level. I have also taught English Language Arts (ELAR) at the 4th, 6th & 8th grade level. I have ten years of experience teaching in the public schools in Texas. I have taught geography for many years to homeschoolers and unschoolers. My expertise is in Geography and the Culinary Arts. I have always been a huge proponent of inclusion.... since the early 1990's. I am ESL certified and co-taught with special ed teachers in the classroom. Being an immigrant and naturalized American citizen, I am a former ESL student. I come from a multi-cultural background (American, Flemish, Walloons & Greek). I was born in Belgium to a Belgian mother and a Greek father who grew up in Egypt speaking Arabic. I am married to a retired American geochemist. I have traveled to approximately 20 countries. I am a former unschooling mom whose twin sons were self-directed learners from birth, and primarily autodidactic.
There will never be required homework. The only homework is to enjoy yourself in your self-directed Geography journey! I do, however, encourage club members to share whatever interesting Geography information they may have learned about over the previous week.

No assessments. This is a social club where we have fun discussing anything having to do with Geography.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will use Nearpod in all our meetings. The club members will be given a link to the Nearpod lesson at the beginning of each meeting. Learners should be familiar with splitting their screen, where Zoom will be on one side of the screen and the Nearpod lesson will be on the other side of the screen. This skill is not difficult to learn. If this is an unfamiliar skill for the learner, the parent may wish to assist the learner for the first lesson or two. Instead of splitting their screens, some learners choose to use two devices, which is also ideal.
