In this course, students will work through multidigit multiplication and division word problems and be given useful tips in how to solve them. We will work through problems, looking for key words that tell us what we are solving and identifying the information necessary to solve them. These tricks include: -Highlighting/underlining key words and crossing out unnecessary information -Understanding what the problem is asking us through key words -Solving using the skills necessary to solve including multiplication, and division (basic multiplication and division knowledge is required as these will be used in this class) Students will work through a series of problems with the instructor on the screen and get opportunities to interact on the screen as well to solve problems. Practice material will be provided. The time structure for this class is as follows: 5 Min-introductions, allowing students time to join the class, review rules 10-15 min- strategies for solving word problems and demonstrating how to use strategies 15-20 min- independent practice of problems and reviewing problems (we will present one at a time, giving about 4-5 minutes per problem for students to solve, then we review together with students demonstrating skills for solving). Students will use the chat feature to send answers to the teacher.

I am a 5th grade math teacher, and have taught math review on Outschool since January of 2019. I have worked with various students from various backgrounds to help them master mathematics for over 10 years as a teacher, including private tutoring. I am very familiar with digital learning and how to work with students online. I also integrate review for students to practice to show me how they are progressing. I stay on after the session ends if students need a bit more review.
