In this intro to watercolours class learners will explore some of the key techniques used by watercolour artists. We will examine these techniques, test them out in class, and take about how they can be used in our paintings and painting practice. I will share some of my favourite tips for bringing watercolour into drawing and how this versatile medium can be used in a variety of styles. Learners do not need to have experience in watercolours, this is a great class for beginners! Techniques we will cover include: Wash Wet on wet Resist Drybrush Desaturation Lifting Painting direct Drawing experience will be helpful but not required. Learners can expect teacher demonstrations, in class exercises, and links to reference for extended learning.

Learners will want to have : a set of watercolour paints (tube or pan) watercolour paper (140lb) - 5 sheets approximately 8x10 in size (you may find it cheaper to buy a large sheet from your local arts & craft store and cut down to size.) Pencil and eraser Paper towels Table salt Optional: Ruler Low tax masking tape Drawing board

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Sharon is a professional fine artist/illustrator who has been teaching studio curriculum on Outschool for 5 years . Prior to bringing her art and art technique programs to Outschool she taught in schools, community centers, and private studios dating back to 2006.
Sharon has illustrated FOUR published children’s books, as well as a few that never made it to print. Check out her newest picture book "Refin Builds A Rocket Ship".
When she isn’t sharing her passion for the arts with learners on Outschool Sharon is creating work in as many different mediums as she can get her hands on.. Sharon's classes are rooted in Reggio philosophies and strives to equip learners with the tools they need to be successful in AND outside the classroom.
